A flight from London's Heathrow Airport to Washington, DC has been diverted to Boston, Mass, after the pilot declared an emergency because of a passenger disturbance, the airline said.

A female passenger aboard United Flight 923 had Vaseline, a screwdriver, matches and a note referencing al Qaida, according to Phil Orlandella, spokesman for Boston's Logan International Airport.

He said the flight was escorted to Boston by two fighter jets.

The flight, with 182 passengers and 12 crew members landed safely, United spokesman Brandon Borrman said.

Borrman said a female passenger was spotted engaging in some "suspicious" activity, but he could not immediately say what the activity was.

State Police and federal agencies took control of the plane after it landed.

Passengers were seen coming off the plane on the tarmac and being loaded onto a bus. Orlandella said their carry-on luggage was being checked.

Last week, British authorities said they foiled a terror plot to blow up trans-Atlantic flights from London to the United States.

Rumors called untrue
Naccara said he did not believe any items she was carrying were the cause of the outburst. An airport spokesman, Phil Orlandella, previously confirmed broadcast reports that the woman was carrying Vaseline, a screw driver, matches and a note referring to al-Qaida, but backed off the statement. Naccara said it wasn’t true.

“I don’t know what she had on board with her, but we have been told she did not have a screw driver, she did not have any liquids such as Vaseline, and any notebook she may have had, it did not contain an al-Qaida reference,” Naccara said. “This is still playing out, of course.”

“There was speculation in the beginning of all those items, but those have been proven untrue,” he said. He said he had no information about matches.

She didn't, and matches and and notebooks are allowed anyhow.
It's a whole bunch of fear-mongering carp.

The lady sufferered from an apparent claustrophobia attack.
Oh, if only the terr'ists had suffered from claustrophobia on 9-11 maybe the US could have gotten some fighter jets within the vicinity of any of the 4 planes that were hijacked that day

Funny the BBC reports that she was carrying matches and hand cream.

The woman was carrying hand cream and matches but was not a terrorist threat, said Christopher White, a Transportation Security Administration spokesman. Those items are not banned on commercial flights, he said.
