not at all. I am not the most consistent hopper but it doesn't affect my dirtjumping. Hopping involves muscling your bike over/onto something. I tire too easily. Dirtjumps involve staying loose and easing the bike around. Nowhere near as much physical effort as bunny hopping. Way more mental than physical
I am not the greatest hopper or the greatest jumper. Metal can hop higher that he can jump and Djs better than every one in our group. This kid brian hops as high a Metal but cant Dj to save his life. It just depends on if you can flow the Djs. Djing does help your hopping skills though
I have a friend who can boost about 2 feet off of dirt jumps and can hop about 2 inches on flat ground, so I'd say no, they don't go hand in hand. Of course, the more bike control you have whether it be from riding djs or bhopping or whatever, the easier you'll be able to pick up new techniques.
