i've got an '04 dj2 on the way (warranty replacement for cracked crown on my '03). i know you can upgrade the Jr. T to HSCV damping, can the same be done on the DJ's?

Yes, but you'd still have an overly heavy fork.
at least it'd be an overly heavy fork with good damping
