Do Avid's and Hayes use the same adaptors?

Do Avid and Hayes use the same brake adaptors? Will my 8" front adaptor for a boxxer and Hayes work with my boxxer and an Avid Juicy 7? Thanks!

If you run the Avid adapters you need to also run the cone washers to get the Hayes caliper in the right spot.

If you are running Avid calipers on Hayes adapters then no washers are needed.

Got it? :)

What about hayes adaptors, hayes calipers, and avid rotors? will that work?
watch the rotor size. It should be ok, but I noticed when I was checking measurements for my bike that there are some size differences. ex. the 160 rotors are actually about 3mm larger than the 6" rotors. 203 to 8" is much closer though.

Avid offers both 160 and 165 mm rotors so be aware of what you have.

Avid and Hayes calipers and adapters are completely interchangeable BUT you have to use the Avid conical washers with the Avid adapters regardless of brand of caliper, but with the Hayes adapters you use no washers, even with Avid calipers. Is that semi-easy to understand?

Yeah that's good info, thanks. I'm trying to run Hayes Nines with some Avid 185mm rotors... So i'm thinking as long as I use the Hayes Calipers with the avid adaptors and washers, the alignment should be okay.

I did notice the 185mm is something like 7.2 inches but I guess if you are using Avid adaptors and washers that kind of corrects itself. It would prob. be more of a problem if i was trying to run hayes adaptors with the avid rotors, but i don't even think hayes makes a 7" adaptor or rotor.

I was more worried about the acutal fit of the caliper onto the adaptor.

Thanks for all of the info

I did this on my '04 Enduro Pro w/ a Marz Z1FR 130mm. I had to flip the front avid adapter for my Hayes Mag G1 caliper...fyi (or maybe it was the rear...can't remember). The spacing will be off when you do that, so you'll need some small washers to shim the caliper for proper centering on the rotor.

this may or may not apply to me because to further complicate things matters I am trying to mount this to a Manitou Nixon with post mounts of course. So maybe the front adaptor (if i can score one from LBS or online) could be flipped. Whatever happens I'm expecting to have to shim or grind or something to get this to work.

But I guess that's some of the tech appeal of bikes, complicated enough to keep us interested, not dangerous enough to have serious consequences when compared to fixing a car or something.
