Ok....this is more of an anecdote than anything....

So I work in a crummy little town. Wikipedia at one time listed it as the "white trash capitol of Canada". I believe that has since been removed.

So anyway, a guy here at work piled up his truck the other day. he's banged up, but he'll be fine. "Fell asleep at the wheel". um....yeah....after he left the bar.

So anyway, legend has it right now, that he was sort of conscious when the cops found his overturned pick-up. They gave him a breathalyzer, but the hospital didn't do any blood tests.

How is that possible? shouldn't the cops have insisted on blood tests?

As this is a small town, it is speculated that the cops on the scene knew him and are looking the other way.

In the 3 years I've worked here, I've lost track of how many guys have significantly injured themselves by combining cheap beer and quads/pick-ups...

locally a guy killed a girl in a head on collision while driving drunk..... he also had three previous DUI's...

i'd say the courts don't take them seriously.

Was at a Christmas party a few years ago, the hosts made sure everyone drinking had a sober driver with one exception: their cop friend. He explained that if he got caught he would have to buy the other officer a case of beer. Yeah selective enforcement.

Something like 1 in 97 people have been arrested for DUI. I think the only people that take it seriously are the lawyers who make some serious bank on the laws.

I have seen the same thing but only small town cops and deputies in rural counties. Presumably these particular gentlemen are not the cream of the law enforcement crop. Then they put the worst of the worst on night shift and you have blood in the gutters.

Well not like it matters, but the cops here are OPP (Ontario Provincial Police.....aka State Troopers)

am i the only one here who reads 'provincial' w/ the assumed eyeroll around the 'vin'?

there needs to be an extended character set or mozilla plugin to accommodate this

I thought they were all mounted police? WTF, Canada?

One of the best bus trips I took to work had a woman on it who was pissed because she had to ride the bus. When I asked why she "had" to ride, she proceeded to tell me she lost her license last week after she got her 3rd DUI. The best part is, she got popped leaving the bar while she was on a provisional license (to work/home ONLY) after her 2nd DUI a few months earlier.

How dare they bust her leaving the bar! She was at a bar, of course she was drunk! - The Victim
