Do I need a new helmet?

I have a Fulmer MX DOT approved helmet.

I have taken at least 4 good crashes on it. The 4 I remember and am worried about are hitting a tree basically head first at ~20MPH, Lawn Darting into a Rock at ~15 MPH, and two other incidences that involve trees and speed.

I know that a regular bike helmet needs to be replaced after every small crash, but with an MX helmet, how often do you have to replace them?

you should be able to send it in to the manufacturer for a free inspection. You may have to pay for shipping though.

It's your head, it's worth it. If you are concerned, you should do it.

I'm pretty sure MX helmets are good for multiple impacts but if you have any cracks or deep scratches in the fiberglass then it's time for a new one.

xc helmets that rely solely on the foam for protection should be replaced after a substaintial hit. Dh helmets have the fiberglass or crabon shell to take most of the impact. I'm willing to bet that a DOT helmet can take a lot of 15-20 mph impacts before it's done. But, it's your head, do what makes you comfortable.

Get it checked, you can always get a cheap fullface at jenson (661 $45) as a back-up helmet. If it comes back fine than at least you got a back-up helmet to use or lend to a friend and if its not okay than you already have a helmet.
Get it checked-out!!!

I dont mess around with Biking FF helmets. When I go down, I go down HARD. I have seen way too many crashes and heard to many horror stories about bike FF helmets that I'm willing to sacrifice an extra few pounds on my head to know I am going to not be drooling the next day.

I had the same Bell Moto 3 Pro about age 11 until I was 21yo...... I think the foam may have compressed over the years. :D Gee ya think? haha No way the helmet fit me growing up without haveing the foam colapse.

I know my head grew. ;) I still have that old beast of a helmet. lol She was good to me....from what I can remember.

I do not think you have to be as diligent about replacing your Moto helmet as you do a XC helmet. Be real to yourself and the impact it took. If it took some real good ones....maybe it is time to replace.

Don't waite as long as I did. ;) or you might end up looking like this -->

3 to 5 years is the usual recommendation if you have had zero major crashes and did not drop it from a height of >2'. Helmets are designed to shatter on impact to absorb energy and may still appear to be in good shape even though their ability to absorb an impact may have been depleated. in other words........replace it.

yeh i think that yours needs to be framed and hung. thats alot of abbuse so there you go either your confident in something that can take hits at 50mph or your not. so your decission.
