OK, so I know Sea Otter is months away. And yet, after seeing the schedule, I'm really concerned about which division to ride in. If you'll recall, I asked for help with the Northstar series, and did move up since it was said that Alaina would be growing up, too. I had a blast in the better division, and the extra few miles didn't kill me after all.

I'd be riding in the Clydesdale class (still can't lose the 30-odd pounds I want to), and I feel the mileage is worth the drive (about 5 hours from home). I'd rather not miss work and race on Friday. Here's the question-- Race Friday in the Cat 1 Clydesdales, or try to get Sat or Sun off work and ride the Cat 2 or 3's? I'm not worried about being OTB, as I'm just out for fun anyway.

So what say ye, ol' Monkies of Ride?? And yes, I am a big, phat Sally trucker rider guy, so save the jokes for later................

Wait. I'm truly confused (not just being grammar patrol snarky confused).

[You'd] rather not miss work and race on Friday.

Does this mean you're not working on Friday, so you could race that day in Cat 1, which you would prefer? If so, I say race the Cat 1, and don't miss work. Seems like you do the honorable thing all the way around.

"just for fun" & Cat 1? Mmmmmmm, not so sure about that.

Plus you have to have an annual license for Cat 1 AND get usa cycling's OK to move up.

My vote, do Cat 2.

I always thought that they threw us fatties all in the same generic clydesdale class.

I have never seen cats for clydesdale.
Maybe they use cholesterol levels to divide them up.
Ha, I do know some guys who got serious, got out of clydesdale, and went on to win and dominate cat 1 races.

To the OP, race Cat 2. Like Douglas said, no sense in buying an annual license and all that.

If you are not killing cat 2, stay there. No use in paying for the license and racing in a class you are uncomfortable racing in.

But if you want to push yourself more, I say go for it!

I am racing Cat 1 DH again next year. Hopefully I wont dislocate my shoulder in practice the day before my race run. =] Expecting a much better result this year (if I don't take it too easy). I promised my fiance no visible injuries for our wedding the following month.

Good feedback. Let's see--

Don't know about Clydes DH, but wouldn't gravity be on our side??

Yep, prefer kickin' it with the riders off the back. At least we can have a conversation without losing breath.

Current schedule has me off Wed/Thur or Thur/Fri (it's great to be at a casino in a tourist town).

Northstar was sport class. Spoke with Frosty at SO, and he says the Cat's are to be consistant throughout road and mtb riders.

Yep, there is a Cat 1, as I would prefer to ride Friday and checked/double checked the schedule, although now the yearly license $$$ concerns me.

Would prefer us fatties be in the same class, as they raced us on Friday the last 2 years.

So all this being said, it would appear it's time to start kissing up to the boss well in advance so when the SO weekend comes around, I'll just switch my days off to ride Cat 2/Sport/still over-weight/really, I'm here for the views division...........
