Do YOU deserve to be called a mountain biker?

I saw this over on another MTB board and thought it might be interesting to discuss it here:

  • Do you think mountain biking is a right or a privelege?
  • Do we have some entitlement to participate in this activity or is it something we have earned by whatever accomplishments?
  • Do you think some people don't deserve to enjoy mountain biking because of their political beliefs.

Uhm - the last question you asked is the most foolish thing I've ever seen...

Biking is a privelege - but one that should be fully endorsed as it promotes health, activity, and a desire to enjoy the outdoors (rather than destroy them so we all wanna spend our time indoors)

Anyone and everyone can and should ride. As to where - well that's up to the landowners and their generosity. However, if "mountain bikers" work together and promote a positive image of the sport and those who engage in it - then we shouldn't be too terribly denied access to areas where other recreational sports exist.

I think if it is your belief that men look adorable in spandex, and thus this decision causes you to parade about in purple lycra, then you should be designated to the roadie crowd - but only for disturbing the peace.

I don't know. Is breathing air and drinking water a right or a privelege?

I did the dishes yesterday. That earns me six weeks of mountain biking.

Anyone should be allowed to ride a mountain bike. But if you are right wing nazi tool, you should not be allowed to enjoy it. It should be a thoroughly miserable experience.

I was called a Nazi, once.......

 He was friendly to me after I decided to clue him in on the fact that I heard him. :D I rarely resort to any violence or intimidation but the guy just about pissed himself when this mild mannered dork spun around and approached him. I must have looked pretty psycho, totally not my nature, but in the situation I was rocky on the edge of full crazy after hearing him call me a nazi. Crazy thing is I was in the desert surrounded by no less than 100 motorcycle riders during a Poker Run. I am sure the little kids would have some lengthy discussions with their parents if the guy and I decided to tossle.

Oh waite, what was the question? :)

MTB is a privelege. If not handled correctly it should be taken away.

The only thing that opens the door for me to MTB is the fact I bought a bicycle that I wish to take offroad. I have done nothing to earn the privelege, but I feal if I miss used the privelege that it should be taken away. I don't beleive political affiliation should factor in to the privelege of MTBing, but I feal that the Left Wing Nazi's tools do. ;)

A better question would be: Do you deserve to be allowed to go mountain biking when you encourage and approve of the destruction of the world's last unspoilt refuge?

Nope, it's still a dumb question.

Maybe if our politicians took the time to go for a ride in our beautiful forests, they would come back with some more down to earth policies. I mean, political beliefs are important but having some fun is important too and that should not be an obstacle coming between you and the beliefs you choose to broadcast.

I think anyone who brings up mountain biking and political beliefs in the same sentence should be banned from mountain biking...
