Do you think Anderson Silva is going to win another title defense against Thales? I worry about it since Thales is a BJJ bada$$. I was watching PRIDE way back in the day when Silva lost two of his fights. One against Daiju Takase and one against Ryo Chonan. He got submitted in both fights. He's a lot better than he ever was back then, but you never know. But then i also remember that Anderson and GSP are two of the only fighters that actually look like pro MMA fighters, compared to a bunch of "semi" pro's. What are your thoughts? I think the fight is on the 18th.

I'm interested to see who wins out of Chuck and Shogun too. They both need this win, badly. And they are both only shells of their former selves.

Can't remember who else is on that card.

Yes, nobody can beat Silva at 185 and very few can even test him at 205.

I saw "BJJ" which I assume is a typo and was meant to be "BJ" which probably means he's speaking pornese.

Not to be confused with a BBJ, or bareback BJ, but that costs extra.

I figure Anderson has the advantage, but I am looking forward to seeing him challenged in a different way.

Let's say Thales is no Travis Lutter...

BJJ is the short way of typing Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.

Yeah, i'm thinking Thales might be a big threat. Anderson didn't do well against Lutter's take downs. And Lutter is a slob. I'm just hoping he does another flying knee while Thales shoots in. he worked Carlos Newton over with one of those a while back.

Travis Lutter got worked. Getting caught in a triangle choke while getting hammered with those elbows is about as bad a situation as you could be in.

Looking back at both Franklin fights, he has a lot of weapons. Nobody has violated Franklin like Silva did.

I'm not saying Silva can't be beat, I just don't see anyone who can at the moment. Should still be a good fight, though.

Yeah, Lutter is a lazy slob. That's why he won't be fighting in UFC anymore. His cardio always sucks.

I personally think that Franklin was overrated. But we'll see. He's scheduled to fight my man (Wanderlei Silva) in a few months. They'll be fighting in 185. That should be good. Although, I don't think Franklin has fought anybody with as much intensity as the Wand. But, Wand has talked about changing his fighting style a bit so he's not as wild. He says he just gets caught in the moment and likes to put on a good show for the fans. He usually does, but he's been getting caught lately. I think Wand will walk away with the TKO on that one.

I haven't seen any of Thales' fights. Don't know how good he is. Hope he's better than Cote. That was a lame fight.

But, in MMA anybody can win, anytime. There's always a punchers chance.

Franklin will crush "the axe murderer". That dude has no braincells left and it has shown in his latest losses. Chuck is so far off his game, but even an out of shape Liddell put a beatdown on him.

Isn't he like 2-4 in the UFC?

I am unsure how overrrated Franklin is.

I watched a replay of him vs Dan Henderson, and he barely lost.

I have to rethink about who is toughest opponents were, but you may be right.

    Henderson was a split decision.

His only other losses are to Anderson Silva (twice) and Lyoto Machida in 2003. He's beat Nate Quary (awesome KO) and David Loiseau (unanaimous), Jason MacDonald (tko), and Evan Tanner (tko).

    He's 24-4-0, I wouldn't call Franklin overrated at all.

<edit> Wanderlei Silva is 1-2 in the UFC.

    I think dominance spoils people.

Silva is an amazing fighter in an extremely competitive category.

In comparison, I don't think heavyweights is as competitive.

Franklin is a great fighter, but not as good as Silva. Doesn't mean he is overrated.

Wand's record isn't 1-2 in the UFC. He fought a few fights way back in his early 20's. I can't remember what his record is. But if you compare records, he had the most wins through PRIDE. No denying that he was one of the best of his time.

Franklin might have 24 wins, but who were they? He hasn't had to fight any top tier fighters other than Anderson that i can recall. Oh, and Henderson. But Henderson's time has come and gone. He can't finish fights. He's like Koscheck. Lay and pray.

Silva has fought a lot of really good fighters in his time. Mark Hunt, Yoshida (olympic judo medalist), sakuraba in his prime (three times), crocop in his prime, Chuck Liddell, Quinton Jackson (which he destroyed twice), i think he fought one of the NOG brothers, and also Ricardo Arona if i remember correctly. He didn't look good against Quinton last time, but he just got caught. Same punch that laid out Liddell. Same punch that dropped Jardine a couple of times just a month or so ago.

I would say that the light heavy weight class is very competitive right now. That's why Wand has dropped down. That's probably why Anderson hasn't done any 205 fights lately. There's Liddell, Jackson, Griffin, Jardine, Machida, Rashad, Thiago Silva.

I just think if Wand drops to 185, Franklin will crush him. I think Wand is a natural 205 and Franklin is a natural 185. Franklin has had success at 205, but he isn't as fast as he is at 185.

Figure MOST 205's are actually about 215 to 220 where MOST 185's are 200. When Franklin fights at 205, he is 205, not cut down to 205. For Silva to make 185, he will be cutting some 30 pounds.

    Again:
Nate Quary (awesome KO) and David Loiseau (unanaimous), Jason MacDonald (tko), and Evan Tanner (tko).

Granted, MacDonald is new, Quary is still newish, but both have some very impressive wins (Quary has like 5 KO's in the first minute).

Watch the KO that Ace did on Quary. It's impressive.

i actually read something on an mma forum about Wand cutting. He says he actually weighs a natural 208. So in that weight class, he's out sized. You can tell when he matched up with Quinton last time. He was way smaller than Quinton. It should be a good fight. They both need a win pretty bad. The only thing that sucks is that they're both going to be tentative compared to how they used to fight. They used to win by straight throwing and being aggressive. Now that they need wins, they're going to fight a lot more tentatively and pick their shots a lot more selectively.

    Of Franklin's reccord:
    13 by (T)KO
    9 by submission

He's a striker, but he's caught a lot of dudes on the ground, too. I just think Wand has had WAY too many blows to the head. He should retire before he's dead.

It'll be interesting to see how they both fight (whenever it is). With Anderson's contract coming to an end, it'll be interesting to see who's going to be the champ in the 185 class.

Think the Silva fight will go past the second round? There's only one person that made it that far, and he fell with a jacked up knee.

By flying knee? Or by Thai Clinch? Maybe straight left?

It would be a trip if he submits the BJJ blackbelt again.

I'll chime in here. I predict Silva will win again. If some fluke happens and it goes to the ground then he is at risk for sure, but I see him trying to keep it standing. He's got killer knees ao taking him down is not going to be a walk in the park.

As for Chuck and Shogun... I'm excited to see this fight. I'd like to see, and expect to see Chuck come out on top. This is a good match up for him. He needs to keep his friggin hands up though. You'd think he'd have learned after Jackson, but then Evans did the exact same thing to him.

But it's not like he's a slouch on the ground, either. I honestly don't see a lot of holes in his game at this point. Cardio, striking, ground game, take down defense, submissions, it's all there.

I hate the saying, but it's true that pound for pound there isn't much better than Silva except for maybe Faber in the WEC (who lost his last title defense) and maybe GSP who is also a freak of nature.

This might be an oversimplification, but being a BJJ expert in takedowns is not going to be so easy against another expert who is also the best striker in your division.

I've seen several fights with ground game specialists which never went to the ground. I don't know if it was prefight hype or just how the game is played.

Silva doesn't get on the ground much and I think people forget he is pretty bad ass on the ground, too. Of all his weapons, I would fear his knees and elbows.

    Don't forget about Fedor.

Fedor, Anderson, Urijah, GSP. Pretty much the only MMA pros out there. the rest of them look like Semi pros. these 4 guys make it look easy and they're so fluid and smooth at what they do. They make all of the others look sloppy and like their on a lower level all together.

I saw an interview with Liddell about some ridiculous claim from Kurt Angle about how he could submit Liddell. This is what I like about Liddell, he stated the total obvious: "Not with me getting my shots in".

But Liddell, who rarely goes to the ground, is a top wrestler who specializes in sprawl defense. For Silva, I believe he will choose where the fight will be held, not Thales.

Exactly. Anderson makes his fights almost look like a video game. His combos are awesome. He can do virtually anything except for a street fighter fireball.

Did anyone see Chuck on the Deadliest Warrior show? They were measuring his various punch powers and he was off the charts. He doesn't look overly fast, and he doesn't ever seem to be hitting THAT hard, but if he catches you clean, you're done.

He is getting slower and has lost a lot of edge, I think. But his overhand right will kill you.

I'm pretty sure Chuck will beat Shogun. Shogun has sucked ever since PRIDE got bought out. Shogun doesn't have the knockout power or cardio anymore. Chuck just needs one good punch and that's it for Shogun. Shogun would have to overwhelm him with flurries. But since his cardio is so crappy now, it won't happen.

They said he was punching faster than the average Olympic boxer.

Especially knowing the critical ability in Olympic boxing is hand speed not power, I was impressed.
