Just curious.........

I don't particularly like to wrench on my bike, or clean my bike, or upgrade my bike, or seek to get more bikes in the stable. I don't like to read bike magazines or watch cycling on T.V.

I just like to ride.

Anyone else?

P.S. Oh yeah, I do make an exception for the :monkey: :dancing: :D

i haven't been a parts whore since i stopped reading mba, and that was almost a decade ago :D , but it's still fun to work on the bike. well crafted metal is a fine thing.

I only wrench, clean, or upgrade when necessary. For example, I'm still using the 1997 LX shifters my bike came with, and I just replaced the 1997 LX crank last month. :)

taking a wrench to the bike, with beer in hand and tunes on the stereo, is one of my favorite things to do, next to actually riding.

So, no.

That's kinda where I am. Although often I don't wrench even when it *is* necessary. :nope:

My last bike had a Marzocchi Z2 bomber on it that I'd done NOTHING with for about 5 years. No oil changes, no seals, no nada.

Luckily I drove that bike into the garage and insurance bought me a whole new (used) bike. :D

Yep...I sit back and watch my bitch wrench on my bike while I swill some cold brew :D or take it to a shop, I could care less who the big name racers are, or who is the guy that owns (insert your favorite bike company here) etc. Course I'm not doing much riding at the moment, but I'll be back...

Lousy rat. He makes his riding partners fix his bike for him. :mumble: He'll bring his bike over pretending to want to work on it and then drink my beer and have leave to put his kids to bed or something. On his way out the door "hey....you don't mind doing <fill in the blank> on my bike so we can ride early tomorrow morning do you?" :monkey: Oh well.

What I don't like is when I show up to a ride and someone nominates me to work on a bike. Do I look like phuckin shop? Do I work at the phuckin shop? For those that don't know, the answer is no. Do I mind helping a friend? No. Do I want to work on a stranger's bike because the shop mech is high? No. Worse yet, last week I adjusted a headset before a road ride with the mechanic that built the bike watching. I thought it was rude to ask me knowing he was there. I didn't know he built it till later. Then they are all, John is so nice to work on our bikes, blah, blah, blah. Phuck off and leave me alone. I am hear to ride phucksticks. Damn I just raged like Knuck and it was GOOOOOOOOOD. :mumble:

I like riding more than upgrades, repairs, maint, etc, but I did enjoy building my bike. I also enjoy upgrades if something is broken or just isn't working right.

My problem w/my bike is the same as w/my truck: I hate preventive maintenance, but I love throwing new/better parts on. A great money-losing combination.

I will do enough preventive maintenance so that I'm not always having to bum parts or get help fixing crap on a ride. For my ego that would be ALMOST as bad as not having a bike at all.

dang..........the 'Knuck' is contagious. It sounded like I had some mechanic rage in my post too. There really isn't, go back and re-read it with a good amount of sarcasm.

:stupid: If it aint broke, it's not the reason your slow!

I only upgrade when the old part is dead. There is a reason why my buddies call my bike Frankenbike...

I love my bikes, and I love to ride them... but when I'm not riding them, I like to adjust them, and talk about them, and clean them, and think about them...

so I guess the answer is no :D

When I built my bike, I didn't have the money for all
the parts I wanted, So slowly I get the parts I want and replace
the parts I could afford at the time.

I pretty much think about Riding 24-7 and During the winter here in Colorado, The thoughts of spring & summer Riding fill my mind. Some people here mark off the days until the resorts open for winter, I on the other hand mark off the days until that white crap is gone and it is again our turn to ride the mountain. Winter Sucks, so I read/watch/upgrade/wrench and anything else I can get my hands on until winter is over as long as it has to do with my bike.

I just like to ride, but maintenance is a necessary evil to keep the ride enjoyable though I try to get Loco to do as much of it as possible. :sneaky:

I used to like wrenching back when I had more time to kill and had a dedicated place to work. Currently I don't really have a dedicated area for my bike so its kind of a pain in the butt. Nowadays, I only wrench when there's something wrong, along with the occational cleaning.

Every stupid customer at my shop is one of those "just riding" people. Ya know the ones that come in on an AWESOME day to say how nice it is to be just riding. To drop off their nasty bike to get fixed because they JUST ride.

if i have alot of time i don't mind wrenching, but it takes me 10 times longer to do anything.... partly because i'm usually half ignorant of what i'm doing and let common sense guide me, and mainly because i have serious mt. bike ADD and usually get sidetracked with a t.v. show or phone call or just plain spacing off while working on my bike.
cleaning my bike is necessary only in the winter when i pick up about 5 extra pounds of mud, but when i do clean i use low low low water pressure so as to not burn up my BB, pivot points, etc. So if i can get away with bringin it in dirty, it stays dirty, because it takes forever to clean a bike right....
upgrade for the sake of upgrading no way, but if there's issues that effect the ride, i take care of it.
i don't like to read bike mags or watch cycling on the tube much either, mainly because i'm too cheap to buy mags and i'm too fragmented to remember when something would be on t.v..
And i also explained this to a pal of mine today about not wanting to watch this video of biking. It makes me want to go ride. Everytime i see one of those videos all it does is give me the jones.... Which is why i don't like porno mags, just makes me want to have a naked woman to ride. i could look at stuff til i'm cross-eyed, i'd rather just go out and do it.
i like the monkey though it's been an awesome resource. i tap the minds of monkeys all the time for info i need about bikey stuff at my leisure. and i have also met alot of cool people in person and just personalities on here that share a love of biking even though the degrees of our bikey geekdom vary across the spectrum.
