I ordered stans no tubes for my new wheelset. I usually run maxxis minion 26x2.35 wire bead. will stans work with the maxxis or do I need to look for another tire?
Probably, not so well on the 521 though (old name for the Mavic 721) even with the new 521 specific stans strips. I've got Stan's on a Rhyno Lite XL, a 321, two Single Tracks and a pair of 521s so I've got some experience setting them up. All rims were super easy except the 521s in general and I gave up on the Minions after trying a 2.7 and a 2.5 with various techniques over three nights and put the Michelins on the 521s with Stans.
Remember Maxxis now has UST versions of the Minion DHF, DHR and Highroller in 2.5" They mount up tubeless on Stans and UST rims usually with a floor pump.
I have a new set of the maxxis minion 26x2.35 sitting here, non ust. Do I need to go to a ust tire or will these work?
I read that I need 2 run 2 layers of velox rim tape in the centers of my rims because of the groove, then setting them up should go as planned.

I have minion 2.35's on my XCE - non ust version on a Mavic 3.1x rim - works great w/Stan's - I also have 2.5 minions on my VP Free - on mavic 3.1D rim - works great w/Stan's
so you're good, follow the instructions - be sure and do lots of spinning and shaking - you may need more than a floor pump to set the bead - either a good strong compressor or a CO2 inflator - either way use lots of soapy water on the bead and you should be fine - be sure and ride around on the tires for 10 minutes once inflated - really seems to help distribute the Stan's and get the sidewalls set
remember to add fresh Stan's every few months or it'll dry up in there and you'll start losing air
Could have been worse, they could have used a DH tube.
Theres always a bright side.
Doesn't stop it from defeating the purpose but it could have been worse.
Actually for those out there that don't have the money or just want a quick conversion to stop flats and snake bites, it's a great article.
ARe those the DH ones? If so, I'd say no, just because i've never seen a rim flatspot as easily as he WTB ones. You will lose air as soon as you get a dent in them, and dent they will.

actually i've thrashed them pretty hard and at times was amazed they didnt just fold up into a ball. they are still straight after like 5 months of riding
