Well our first dog, Rusty, is an Airedale Terrier. And he was bad ass when he was a puppy, and he's still a bad ass nine year's later. Tons of energy when he was a pup. Excellent temperment. Great with all walks of life, young or old. Doesn't shed. Was easy to train. And now that he's an old timer, he's very chill. Still has plenty of energy to go have fun, but loves his relaxing time.

ive been thinking about rescuing a siberian husky. thats another breed to look at. they are awesome dogs but very independent.
Aww man, we used to have a siberian husky when I was a kid. Her name was Chinook. She was incredibly independent, but also loyal. We had to keep her leashed AT ALL TIMES, or else she'd escape at a moment's notice. Otbs, she turned out to be pretty good with us kids.

I saw this post a little while ago, and it's been an interesting read, as I'm finally able to get a dog of my own. I LOVE huskies, but they are roaming dogs, and will never stay home. My roommate has a pitt mixed with pointer (i think, no one knows for sure). She's GREAT. I can't vouch for purebred pitts, but this one never barks, and after about 8 pm, falls asleep and is like a rag doll. She needs lots of exercise, but is really a sweet dog. She'll chase squirrels and cats like no tomorrow though, which I think is the pointer in her. She's never seemed agressive around any other dogs though, and when she was around a mean pitt mix, she just kind of ran away from him and tried to hide.

I think I'm set on a rottie/german shepherd mix. Shepherds are so smart, loyal, and they stay home. I've had about six since I was a baby, and we've never tied them up. We lived in rural areas, but they never ran farther than the field next to our house. I know that's not possible where I am now, but it's a great trait of german shepherds. I was thinking a rottie mix, or maybe a lab mix though, to avoid hip problems and other health issues.

I had a saint bernard when I was a kid too, who was AWESOME. she was a purebred from the shelter, and was really the best dog I've ever had. Anyone here had a st. bernard that they rode with?
