saw something interesting the other day, apparently classified documents (which belong to the fed gov't) cannot be subpoenaed. which is why they had to go with a warrant. trump no longer has clearance for classified docs, so he wasn't authorized to possess them. the feds had been working to get them back, but probably suspected he didn't return everything. but IMO it wasn't until an informant came forward to tell them what he had and where it was stashed that the FBI was able to obtain a warrant.
