Or if they build them with a significant overrun using citizen labor.
Government farming out stuff to private companies that can do it "cheaper" and then later finding out that all the corners cut for the winning bid requires it to be redone again at 2x the cost, in the end spending 3x what it would have taken at first, is simply the way of things. Instant gratification because it can be done "cheaper"...

That sounds like a problem for a future guy, not the current guy.
…or a problem the current guy can address in the future by xeroxing his current solution.

All "cheaper" ever means is huge profits for the elite and a shitty wage for the trades.
At least with government it costs a shit-ton, but at least a good portion is back in the community instead of a 3rd mountain retreat.
At least in theory. :bonk:.

Or just embezzled by our new Oligarch overlords.

Then again, there will probably be a lot of desperate Americans looking for work.

Those particular tariffs only get applied if Mexico & Canada don't stop them flow of illegals at the boarder. Unfortunately many news organizations leave out the details.

What are the biggest exports from the US to china and mexico?
Short those companies. Unemployment rates will be interesting once China and Mexico slap retaliatory tariffs on US products.

Petroleum, automotive, big ag and semicon/electronics are the big exports from the US. Also some medical and aerospace. Almost forgot bombs and guns, but not sure how much is going to MX, PRC and CA…

I expect most of those companies will lobby heavily for the new admin to create protective loopholes for them specifically or for some kind of corporate welfare to bridge the revenue gap - you know “bootstraps.”

If China stops buying soybeans, Americans are gonna be eating a lot of tofu…

The tariffs make me think, how much money does China have to directly give donny for the idea of them to go away.

I think he is just trying to give the world a shake down till he is out of debt.

Nine years ago I bought a dozen eggs at the store for,....$3.58

Three years before that I paid 3.99 a gallon for gas, my half ton had a 26 gallon tank and I remember dropping $100 one day to fill it up.

But thankfully the tariffs will fix our current situation.

Gas is as cheap as I can remember...probably when I first moved to Boston it was 1.99, but Bush's iraq war brought us up to 3.99 and it stayed there for the last 20 or so.

But this should be an adventure! Sorry everybody else.

If he died before being sworn in, would there be any succession to Vance?
per Quora

"You are not actually voting for the president and vice president. You are voting for a group of electors selected by the candidates. Under normal circumstances the electors would vote for the president and vice president in early December. If Trump is dead the electors would have to choose someone else. It’s likely to be Vance and a new vice president selected by Vance but it doesn’t have to be. The Republican National Committee may try to get the electors to vote for someone else for president and keep Vance as vice president. I think that this is unlikely since the RNC is so weak."

I think the electors meet in December. the first Monday after the second Wednesday, it appears.
