Ok let me chime in here. there is not enough water anywhere in the LA Basin to put out a fire like this. and you don't have enough fire fighters and engines in the entire state to put it out even if you had the water.

You try and make a stand where you have a huge firebreak. Typically you build a large box of fire break many miles from a big fire and burn out as much as you can so that when a fire hits that box devoid of fuel it goes out. In the palisades there are trees landscaping all the homes. the canyons are full of Chamise and manzanita. the chamise off gasses volatile compounds that fill the canyons and when it gets hot enough they flash over the entire canyon. add 60 mph winds and there is no stopping the blowing embers setting spot fires everywhere. these fires will burn until the wind stops or it hits the ocean and that's the reality. If you want to blame someone blame the idiot in whose back yard the fire started in per LAFD. The Santa Monica Mountains have huge fires every 10 years or so. this area hasn't burned in over 50 years, massive fuel load, drought makin the fuel very dry, high winds and a spark. they are fucked as a result

I remember riding Cheeseboro Canyon about 20 years ago after a massive fire. It was an alien landscape of charred manzanita as far as the eye could see.
