This is good, right brain?
Yeah, but wait until you see the cost of eggs. It will be totally worth it.

It’s pretty hilarious that you can’t accept why he had the need to do that.
Obtuse looks good on you!
I know exactly why he did it. Nothing to do with accepting or not accepting. He's protecting the guilty and the ones that have been going after Trump for years.

Anyways, buckle up! It's going to be a fun 4 years. Did you have a chance to remodel your safe space or are you just going to wing it?

I just skimmed the list of executive orders, JHFC Americans are fucked. I’ve never felt so disgusted. We are cooked.
I avoided all news yesterday but still went to bed with anxiety. Sounds like it was justified.
I’m trying to not seek out news (except skimming Electrek.co to see if anything specific to EVs was signed) but I’m also being just inundated with it. It really does provoke a constant low level anxiety.

LOL!!! Trump is in office because the Biden administration destroyed this country, otherwise Biden and/or Harris would have easily waltzed in, in November. Adam Schiff got pardoned (that POS went to my HS). The one that went on every left wing news source and told the nation he had proof that Trump colluded with Russia, but never showed one ounce of evidence? The one who publicly stated the left should go after Trump when he left office in 2021, then pushed back that Trump was going to go after everyone against him after elected in 24? The Jan 6th committee republicans were hand picked by Pelosi, Cheney despises Trump, so it fit the narrative. Pelosi did not let the republicans choose who they wanted on the committee. Why is that? The left had a mission. Yes, what happened Jan 6th was fucked up and should never have happened. It was really bad! Biden's brother pardoned, why? If he's innocent, shouldn't be an issue right?

Both sides have their problem, I won't deny that. But what the left went through to try and keep Trump out of office was astounding and should never ever be allowed to happen in this country ever again. It backfired hard, now Trump is in the WH for the next 4 years so get used to it.

where the trails are
some notes from our Renewables Policy guy. (will impact energy/climate)

Some very quick summary points on the relevant executive orders signed by President Trump since yesterday
  • Cessation of pretty much all wind activities, both offshore and on; no such language regarding solar or storage (but please see below)
  • Revocation of the federal EV mandate
  • The President did declare an energy emergency, effectively approving expedited siting, permitting, and development of all energy and mineral infrastructure, opening federal lands wherever possible (specifically Alaska). Wind, solar, and storage were not included in the language of the EO. The Order also specified the northeast and west coast as having the most vulnerable energy infrastructure. If one were to read into the definition, electric transmission could be included. Some of this could be challenged legally, though so far it appears that the President is acting within his authority. Actual application of the Order may be tricky as so much siting and permitting falls to states and regions.
  • Unspent funds of the IRA are frozen, but no language regarding tax credits
  • Nothing so far that I’ve seen on tariffs (Canada and Mexico); the President has now said by February. I’m going to take this as a positive sign that his advisors are getting him to act cautiously here.

There will be a lot more to come, specifically once the cabinet nominees are confirmed.

Imagine buying a tesla thinking you were going to save the world, then being faced with the realty that your purchase helped fund the biggest reversal of green energy in our lifetimes.

I wonder what effect these policies will actually have. It's highly unlikely that the next president, if we don't have civil war, will be more green energy supportive. Any oil company that starts drilling better cash out by 2029 if so. I also don't understand the hate for green energy- it just furthers the US' energy independence, and that's objectively not a bad thing.

thanks, Nick. this is relevant to my interests.

I read another summary that echoed that first point, too, which is interesting since there's no "Federal EV mandate." tilting at windmills indeed. I mean, there's CAFE fleet requirements but no straight mandate.

I'm personally curious as to how this IRA frozen/tax credits still letter of the law will play out with regard to residential heat pump installs and quotes, and how that'll potentially have a cooling effect on the market (pun intended, har har).

I searched "dotard executive order inflation reduction act" and found this, lining up with Nick's co-worker's summary:

(e) to eliminate the “electric vehicle (EV) mandate” and promote true consumer choice, which is essential for economic growth and innovation, by removing regulatory barriers to motor vehicle access; by ensuring a level regulatory playing field for consumer choice in vehicles; by terminating, where appropriate, state emissions waivers that function to limit sales of gasoline-powered automobiles; and by considering the elimination of unfair subsidies and other ill-conceived government-imposed market distortions that favor EVs over other technologies and effectively mandate their purchase by individuals, private businesses, and government entities alike by rendering other types of vehicles unaffordable;
This is a shot at CARB, who will fight it tooth and nail: "by terminating, where appropriate, state emissions waivers". Note that CO is a CARB-reciprocity state.

Sec. 7. Terminating the Green New Deal. (a) All agencies shall immediately pause the disbursement of funds appropriated through the Inflation Reduction Act of 2022 (Public Law 117-169) or the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (Public Law 117-58), including but not limited to funds for electric vehicle charging stations made available through the National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Formula Program and the Charging and Fueling Infrastructure Discretionary Grant Program, and shall review their processes, policies, and programs for issuing grants, loans, contracts, or any other financial disbursements of such appropriated funds for consistency with the law and the policy outlined in section 2 of this order. Within 90 days of the date of this order, all agency heads shall submit a report to the Director of the NEC and Director of OMB that details the findings of this review, including recommendations to enhance their alignment with the policy set forth in section 2. No funds identified in this subsection (a) shall be disbursed by a given agency until the Director of OMB and Assistant to the President for Economic Policy have determined that such disbursements are consistent with any review recommendations they have chosen to adopt.
this really does seem to be targeted just at DCFC installations... except for the oblique references back to "policy set forth in section 2". seems very vague legally, but I'm no lawyer.

What about what Trump did to try and stay in office? He was getting convicted in the election subversion case, he would have been convicted in the documents case. Had he not been elected by a bunch of idiots, he would be looking at jail time.

But the "back the blue" group just pardoned a group of cop bashers, so there is that.

I just hope we still have a country in 4 years, but I'm also realistic.
