While I agree with BV's point that you're at the mercy of the prof.........it was that way in the early 90's when I was in school and is certainly the rule now. You have to have your BS filter in place and helps one hone their critical thinking skills.

That feminist english teacher had me write a paper about my "favorite character" in a story about hispanic women struggling to make it in Urban LA, the challenges they faced, etc.
I chose the father in the story, who was mentioned in about two sentences of the book. I basically just wrote that I pitied the guy for having to live with a bunch of unemployed women with so much drama in their lives, and I actually got an A.
