Specialized Bicycles is proud to announce the lineup of 2013 Specialized Racing: Gravity USA. This team has been the proving grounds for top talent since its inception, and 2013 looks to surpass even its own lofty standards.

“I’m really excited for the 2013 gravity season,” said Tyler Frasca, Specialized Sports Marketing Specialist. “With last year’s riders all going in different directions, we were able to focus on future DH stars here in the States. That’s what this program was designed to do- find talented kids and groom them for the big leagues.”

The foundation of Specialized Racing: Gravity USA’s roster is laid by the renewal of Cody Kelley. Kelley has been a contender for the top spot on the podium for what seems like years, but this will mark only his second season as part of Specialized’s Downhill team. Kelley’s experience under stars like Mitch Ropelato, who graduated to the Specialized Global Gravity Team, will be indispensable with the influx of raw, young talent to the ranks.

The teenage powerhouses, Walker and Luca Shaw, have signed-on and will form the other two legs of the Specialized Racing: Gravity USA trifecta. Though hailing originally from California, the Shaw brothers cut their teeth in the race world in the hills of North Carolina where they would often beat the field as Juniors. Often battling each other for first and second place, the Shaws may be barely old enough to drive but they have the competitiveness and ferocity of veteran racers.

With returning talent, new faces, and ability to spare, Specialized Racing is primed to put together another record-setting year of Downhill racing. Also the proven Specialized method of putting young talent onto the best equipment on the national stage is sure to continue producing the future stars of the sport.

“It worked well for Mitch (Ropelato), and now Cody Kelley, Walker, and Luca Shaw will be given the same opportunity,” added Frasca. “The team will ride Status frames, Specialized tires, and SRAM drivetrains and suspension at North American races like the ProGRT series and National Championships.”
