or you could run every other tube out there....

why do people want to hold on to presta so badly when they cant even find tubes for them?

either drill or get some new rims that will fit shrader valves.prestas should be keept to xc riders and racers not to dh. and when you drill the rim out get some irc tubes there fairly thick didnt get a good look. but the valves are reinforces with alluminum. now thats awsome so there is no more weak spot at the valve.

I agree, drilling out your rim is the way to go. SO much easier to find tubes, and you can use a presta tube in a pinch.

NO DON'T DRILL!
PRESTA IS LIGHTER!
THE RIM IS STRONGER WTIH IT!
tHERE are only disadvantages if you are a four assed monkey that can not spell dexterity!

Bah, I can sell him a DH MTB drill bit for an outragous price. It's a CK drill bit so it'll cost about $115 bucks...

If I take a blowtorch to it it may even come out "rasta"...

First rule of mountain biking business: "Why charge a fair price when you can charge WAY more than it's worth??!!"

go tubeless, maxxis has presta rim strips for going tubeless, then you won't pinch flat, also get some stan"s sealant so it will hold air. regular maxxis tires work great. when choosing rim strips find the one that has the closest width and profile to your rim, for best results.

or drill, find a scrheader valve and compare it to some drill bits, something just larger will be perfect.

What kind of rims do you run? Most of the heavy duty DH tubes have schrader valves (for easier pumping at local gas station, etc).

If you have D321's or D521's, most D321/521's come with a priesta valve adaptor in where the valve inserts. You can pop out the priesta valve adaptor and you'll have a schrader valve hole. Just my $0.02.

im with zedro on that one. lighter doesnt really apply to dh and why would you save weight at the tubes.lol. presta valves are weak as hell. you can rip the valve right out with a pump. lol stronger my ass.

he was meaning the rim is stronger.
and making your wheels lighter is way more important than making anything else lighter.

yeah, i really want to save that 0.5 grams by using presta....oh wait, the rim hole is bigger so maybe its status quo.

And just in case people are actually serious about thinking that a presta drilled rim is stronger than a shreader one, well, its not...

anyone know what size I need to drill the hole?
I did it to a new rim this weekend. Just get a round file and keep going until the thing fits. It's a little more work, but hey you'd have to file down the burrs anyway...right? Don't waste you time with the really fine grit files, get the one for re-sizing and shaping. Oh yea, I'm pretty happy with Hutchinson DH tubes too.

I run the Kenda tubes ( they also make the salsa DH tubes) with prestas and have had no problems. I have pinched the green hutchinson tubes ( evil greenies ).

Avenir makes a great DH tube for either valve for super cheap. But I would drill if I were you, that way in a pinch (no pun intended :D ) you can run whatever's on hand, and not be limited. Perfect example; Downieville yesterday I pinched the rear, I had a presta DH tube in my 521 with rubber grommet, my buddy gave me a Maxxis DH Schrader tube and off we went...

although rocky up there, it's not half as bad as the SB trails I'm used to shuttling! I've learned to ride light on the rear end...

riding light on the rear end while going dh okay sure i guess it needs to move freely. and pound around every rock you encounter. so lets shift our weight forward so we flip when we come to a stop. sounds like a plan man
