Don't drink and drive in the wild west.

"The Maricopa County Attorney announced Friday that he will seek the death penalty against a driver who caused a deadly crash on a Scottsdale stretch of Loop 101 while fleeing police, the first time the office has ever done so for a vehicular homicide.

"Just because the murder weapon was a vehicle does not mean the death penalty will be ruled out," County Attorney Andrew Thomas said.

He said several factors called for the "severest penalty under law."
David Szymanski, 22, of Fountain Hills is accused of killing Cody Brett Morrison on April 7. Scottsdale police were pursuing Szymanski about 2:45 a.m., when he screeched his car into the Loop 101 near Shea Boulevard going the wrong way and collided with a Ford Escort, killing the driver, Cody Brett Morrison, 22, of Scottsdale. "

Hey, if a drunk kills while he/she's fvcked and protected in a 2 ton metal cage, he/she deserves the same; eye for an eye in this case is fair in my books. There was a hit/run in CO of a drunk in a big SUV who mow'd over a cyclist who most definitely deserves the death sentence. Execute enough of 'em and the problem of driving drunk will either 1) be solved because all the DDs are dead/executed or 2) deter the DDs with a severe enough of a penalty clause so that they DON'T drink and drive. The down side to 1 is some innocent will also die. I think, instead of death, castration and/or mutalation will be a better deterrant. However, this flys the flag of "cruel and unusual" and most won't go for it.

Sorry, rant over.

Our whole culture is way too tolerant of ****ups in vehicles. Why should you get to ever get to drive again if you cause an injury accident, drunk or sober?

I think we call way too many things accidents, it's a cop out. It was an "accident" when a lady passed me wirth her brakes, turned through a bike lane five feet in front of me, without looking, into her condo parking lot. That "accident" has cost me several months of pain. Her response "I never saw you", two blinkies, dressed like a clown, on a pearl white and red bike, in a bike lane.

<rant>

IMHO most accidents fall under "I don't give a F***" or "f*** you". An accident is when you hit an oil slick and slide out of control. Driving drunk, is a "f*** you" .... I'm drunk and shouldn't drive but "I don't give a f***" so F*** you, I'm gunna"

I totally agree

Drunk Driving is not an accident, but the way Silver was phrasing it sounded like he meant that if you do hit an oil slick and slide out of control and hurt someone, you should never drive again. THAT I dont agree with. I TOTALLY agree with if you drive drunk you should never drive again

Well, itg looks like we're all on the same page here.
This dude deserves what's commin' to him.

Negligent/stupid driving does not cause "accidents". If you're not going to give the attention neccessary to the road and what's going on around your vehicle, you should be stripped of your license. Granted we all make mistakes, and I always feel stupid as **** if I cut sombody off because I didn't see them or whatever, but I don't expect any pity. I know the other dude is yelling "YOU SONOVABITCH", and I deserve that.
The day I really hurt sombody will be the day I stop driving forever.

Maricopa County has to be the best place to live, ever! the warden dealt with over crowding by setting up tents in the yard and making the prisoners sleep out side without AC, TV’s or anything. Their meals were bologna sandwiches for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
I’m going to start looking for a job out there.

That's exactly what I'm saying. An oil slick may be a mitigating factor. You'd have to allow for that and for mechanical issues. Anyone care to dig up stats and find out how many "accidents" are caused by issues outside of the control of the driver? A quick little google search gave me this:

http://www.expertlaw.com/library/accidents/road_accidents.html

A comprehensive study of road safety (Treat et al., 1977) found that human error was the sole cause in 57% of all accidents and was a contributing factor in over 90%. In contrast, only 2.4% were due solely to mechanical fault and only 4.7% were caused only by environmental factors. Other studies have reported similar results.

This made me giggle because I always think DD means designated driver and I was thus lead to believe you were a crackwhore.
