Sheehan warned that the United States was becoming "a fascist corporate wasteland," and that onetime allies among Bush's Democratic opposition turned on her when she began trying to hold them accountable for bringing the 4-year-old war to a close.

In the meantime, she said her antiwar activism had cost her her marriage, that she had put the survivor's benefits paid for her son's death and all her speaking and book fees into the cause and that she now owed extensive medical bills.
Well at least Dubya as that going for him.

Her sons death gave her well beyond 15 minutes of fame.

She forgot that.

just a guess, but she'd probably trade her notoriety for a living son.
And that's what happens when you're a antiwar bleeding heart leftist. She'd be rich right now if she had embraced the right wing war effort. Books, speaking tours, Rush Limbaugh's big bowl of Oxycontin...it would have all be laid out there for her. All she had to do was go around telling people how glad she was that her son was out there torturing and killing people in the name of Jesus, before God called him home to reward him with virgins in paradise. (Oops, scratch the virgins. Wrong myth.) How hard is that to do?

She wrote that she is disillusioned by the failure of Democratic politicians to bring the unpopular war to an end and tired of a peace movement she said "often puts personal egos above peace and human life."

Yep, just another one of those partisan idiots with blinders on.

Is there a shot or pill they can take for that?
No, but you can take them out of school at the age of 6, bang Jesus into them (not in the Catholic priest way, either. More the Ted Haggard way. Wait, that doesn't work either. You know what I mean.) and teach them that the only thing Mexicans are good for is gardening and raising your children.

Voila! Americans.

You can trust Mexicans.... wait maybe mine are dominicans or hondurans.... how the fvck are you supposed to tell the difference, they all look alike?
I dunno. I've just sort of got Asians figured out some of the time. You can't expect me to do the same for Central America without some serious study. Now, if you'll excuse me, I need to go yell at Consuela. She's not getting the tile grout sparking enough, and she's complaining that she wants a brush to use. The nerve! I have half a mind to report her to the INS...

Call them Guatemalans. You can figure out where they are from depending on how angry they get.

wow...i had actually built up a level of respect for your educated and researched opinions on a lot of topics, i don't agree with many of them but at least you take the time to research your opinions and provide a good argument. but this post just blew that all away. dammit you're an arrogant prick.
we can't pick our parents just as we can't determine who will be running the show when we VOLUNTEER for military service. blame the government for a botched invasion or even for the invasion at all but you do not have the right to pass judgement on those tasked with carrying out the orders of said government. i've passed peanut and corn riddled poo with more decency than you.:disgust1:

I think you read a little too deeply into Silver's post, but that's not letting the military off the hook. You volunteer knowing full well you may kill people working as a soldier, and given American foreign policy for the past 40-50 years, you shouldn't be shocked if it's not for the right reasons. Nut up and take responsibility for signing on that line, don't plead insanity by way of asshat leadership.

On that note, what will it take to get Silver on the ballot for '08?

Glib mostly. Somewhat sad. I have a question for you, but I'll save it for the end of the post.

Having said that, I wasn't the born again President who said that God told him to invade Iraq, or used the word crusade less than a week after September 11 to describe my nation's response.

I'd also like to point out that since the President and his political party keep claiming that the United States is a Christian nation, in the eyes of the rest of the world, we are now. I don't agree with that, of course, but it is what it is. It is also impossible to dispute that we are actually torturing people, and when you put two and two together, four is the answer.

Now, onto the military service thing: We have a "volunteer" army, but that is slightly misleading. Last time I checked, you did get paid for military service. Granted, it's not a ton, but in civilian life I don't get paid for volunteer work. That's what makes it volunteer work.

As to passing judgement on individual US soldiers, that depends on their individual acts. Merely being a soldier doesn't make you heroic or evil. Your actions as a soldier do. (Note the default position is heroic. I've seen Orwell quotes in your sig line before. Here is one from him that applies: "Saints should always be judged guilty until they are proven innocent.") Having said that, it is pretty clear looking at the last 40 or so years of US history that joining the military means you have a pretty good shot of going overseas to mess us some brown people, and that the brown people aren't always the bad guys. The fact of the matter is, when you sign up for the US Armed Forces, you are agreeing to play the role of a modern day legionnaire. That's not an entirely morally neutral decision. Coast Guard excepted...

Once again, you shouldn't get mad at me. Get mad at the people who framed the "War on Terror" as a clash of civilizations, get mad at the people who authorized torture and kidnappings in your name, and get mad at the people who lied their way into a war they were hoping to pull off for years but couldn't find a good reason to. Get mad at the guy who didn't bother to get Osama, and who doesn't much think of him anymore.

Now, onto my question: What do you think the response would have been had Cindy Sheehan directed her passion in the pro-war direction? Do you think she would have a book or two out declaring how happy Casey is to be in heaven with his warrior king, sitting next to Reagan. How do you think she would have been treated then?

Personally, you couldn't pay me to kill anyone...that I wouldn't already kill for free. But that's just me.
