A teenage boy suffered serious burns when his clothes, soaked with gas because he had been working on a car, caught fire when his friend lit a cigarette at the Concord BART station, police said Thursday.
The victim, whose name was not released, was being dropped off at the station about 11:30 p.m. Wednesday when his friend lit a cigarette, said BART Deputy Police Chief Jeff Jennings. The victims clothes caught on fire, and he ran from the car to seek help from the station agent, authorities said.
The boy suffered burns to his chest and hands and was taken by helicopter to Santa Clara Valley Medical Center in San Jose.
