The vids show a platform that sticks out about a full lane into the road. Is that not going to be there for the race?

I hate to event admit this but, I've never even hit the bunker jump. I know its not big at all, and I have hit stuff bigger, but its just one of those things. Any thought of a guardrail in or near a landing terrifies me. After two years with no DH I'm still mentally sketched out by jumping anything even moderately large. I'm good with everything else but I have a lot of ground to make back up in the next two weeks as far as jumping goes.
Well now I don't feel so bad, I've never hit bunker either. Just one of those things.

Something about coming at speed to hit that road gap with that amount of risk and then add to it your threading the needle between a telephone pole and the guidewire...just makes me cringe..who thought this was a good Idea
the landing is sketch too. the few guys that have hit it are landing pretty much in the berm that they built on the other side
i'd opt for overshooting that too, instead of undershooting.
not that i have the cajones to hit it in the first place.
So Fred is one of the original crew/founders and kick-started this thing back into reality. Not sure if he and the boys are on RM, but I walked the course with him and Neko a week back. Here is the unofficial stuff I know.
-Road gap is only for PROs and Cat1s. The others will have a forced go-around, which is optional with the pros and 1's.
-I don't think Fred and the guys are going to make money- I have no idea how they could w/all the expenses, let alone time. But they are hoping the race will have a future, especially because the city is allowing it.
-The course has a ton of jumps, many of which are safe at normal speeds, but have no room for error at pro speeds.
-there are two easy drops after the road gap, but they can be Rampage size gaps if you shoot for the second knuckle. Neko said they'd be pretty easy, but I still want to see it because one of them is onto a 4'X8' wooden bridge, mishaps would land straight onto pavement. To me the optional second knuckle gaps are scarier than the road gap. 54 year old Dane is hitting the road gap no problem, but did bump the wooden extension once.
-Justin, there are many jumps and step-down's in this course. At speed there are some nice jump to berms.
- If it doesn't rain, this will be a great event, easily worth the 80$. Don't forget Pottstown and REading are dive towns, so the rooms and food should be much cheaper then your typical mountain event.
- I really pushed for an unofficial big-wheel race on the twisty road since it will be closed, but nobody went for it. It would be so much fun drifting all those turns with some fun people on big wheels. At 40 I can't believe I still think this way.
If you are an east coast rider and the weather is nice, you are crazy to miss this event. Just MO.

i know some people turned off by the $80 price at a place thay they normally shuttle on weekends.
and ive been seeing a bunch of people almost every weekend riding their homemade drifting big wheels with pvc wheels. those guys are nuts.

Call me a pvssy but I'm a little turned off of the race after seeing/reading about the road gap. I'm a Cat1 racer so I would be allowed to hit the jump and if there's any slight advantage over the go around I'm going to push myself to hit it. I don't mind pushing myself to hit big stuff in races, that's what racing is about, but I don't want to push myself to hit dumb stuff. I think I may sit this one out.
I can see how some think $80 is a lot, but I'm sure you've seen the course. Can you really tell the readers of RM the course is remotely the same trail you can shuttle?? Fred has dumped so much dirt and time into that course, if people really shuttle it they should be more than happy to pay 80$ for the improvements, dirt and care the Fred put into that hill. Not too mention no gas or wear on their truck and the chance to be around a ton of like-minded mountain bikers.
I am not part of this event other than free filming and living the next town over, but I know expenses, insurance, time etc. and $40 per day is not much with respect to the logistics. People should be thanking Fred for taking the time to do this because nobody else would. He is doing it as a rider for all the right reasons, not as a promotor. Hell, I think his primary motive is just to race on his home turf again with his friends like old times.

50 Foot road gap to a tranny that is way steeper than the takeoff, into a left hand berm with no room for error, as the first race of the year.... Ill tell you now that im not doing it, I WILL be at the race though. I think the road gap is a huge mistake and a pretty large gamble for anybody that has a whole race season planned, that said, i hope to see everybody send the road gap safely and have no injuries, ill end on this though. better have that tetanus shot!
There is not way it's 50 feet, more like 25. I'll try to share a link of the video to your FB page. It looks easy if you follow someone, but you I don't blame you. You know me, I always rode depending how I felt on the day. If my gut said no-go, I still had fun and just rode. Look at your FB page.

The road gap will have a case pad also. With respect to the bunker- I don't mind the bunker jump, it's intimidating at first, but you don't have to do anything except lift the front just a tad. Just follow someone off it will almost land itself smoothly.

The 45' Looks and sounds like a big fish story. Wish I could link to the video from the side, but as you already said they are FB videos. Any real pro or Cat1 will not have a problem with it. With the case pad it can't be more than 25 feet. Here is a statement direct from Fred when I asked him to clarify:

Ummm.... Its a ROAD GAP.... a real Road gap.. It jumps over a slightly narrow 2 lane road. short of actually taking a tape and measuring it I would thing the average lane is 10-12 ft wide. the side berms are maybe 2 feet. so in total the gap itself is 25-30 feet. 45-50 feet is a pretty big fishing story!!!
Listen guys. I have hit this jump. The GAP from lip to tranny is roughly 30' but my last jump I went 48' to where my rear wheel touched down. During the race there will be a go around. No one is making this jump maditory! The go around will be right next to the take off and be a wooden ladder table top about 10' that will transition into the gaps landing. There is going to be a case pad so I have been told I front of the guard rail for those that may hit this and come up short. So the guard rail will play no roll whatsoever in this jump. If you don't like the jump, that's fine. But don't talk sh*t on it until you've seen it. Fred, Todd, Matt, myself and many others have been working hard to make this race a reality and it's going to happen. It's fast, it's float, and the bottom some some nice steep sections with a rad step down at the bottom that yes, you will be able to send it 40-60' to the bottom. I hope to see everyone out there in a couple weeks racing.
Oh and the guy that made the comment about the pole and guide wire, there are 8' apart and play no role. If you hitting either of the two, you shouldn't be riding a bike. Just saying.

I'm not talking sh!t, just expressing my opinion based on past experiences and personal mistakes. I hosted 8 DH races while in college, and had way more sketchey stuff than that road gap. We built stupid stuff on some of our race courses that had 0 margin for error, sidelined more than a few Pros and sent a few of my friends to the hospital. At a couple of the races we had to change jumps, add go arounds, soften landings etc during practice. I know no one has to hit the jump but in the heat of battle everyone, myself included, pushes themselves to hit stuff and take lines they probably shouldn't. My original comments were based on the Videos I saw with no padding or guardrail protection, sounds like you guys are ontop of that. I wish you all the best and hope you have a huge turnout, I'll probably be there hitting the road gap along with you and we can joke about how easy it is.

I've never hit a jump this big before but after watching the video 1000 times... if I'm going to hit a 40 ft gap this is the one to do. I looks like these guys kicked ass making this.... Now I just need someone to give a the correct pace so I don't come up short.
the pace is faster then you are comfortable with....at least that's my rule of thumb LOL
not too much camping nearby unfortunately. id suggest NOT camping in the city park like some people did in '07.
