help me i am building up an ironhorse sgs team dh frame and am hopping to put a raceface evolve dh 3 ring crank on it with an e 13 srs chainguid. yes i know that the crank is a 3 ring and i have a single ring chainguide listed. but that is where the question arises.
the local bike shop (epic) that i am building the bike with wasnt quite sure if they were compatible. so i was wondering if it was fessable to take the 44t ring and move it to the mid ring possition and mount the chainguide on with out modification. if this cant be done suggest another crankset cause im not changing the chainguide. so thaks again.

:help: :help: :help: :help: :help: :help: :help:

no worries... whether its from E13 or not, I'm sure you will eventually get an answer here. But sending them an e-mail will most likely accelerate the process :thumb:

If you run a Race Face BB (100x143mm) you might be able to get it to work, but your chain line may not be very nice.

disclaimer:

I've never tried this but the FSA and Truvativ BB's are both 100x148mm so if anything will work the Race Face will. You'll probably have to space the hell out of your SRS adapter mounts though.

If I could understand wtf it is you're trying to say, I might have something useful to tell you.

Since you're nearly incomprehensible, all I can do is tell you that for your SRS guide, the single chainring you use is supposed to be mounted on the middle chainring position, and the bashguard mounts on the outer chainring position. The nubs for the granny ring on some cranks need to be ground down for use with a particular chainguide.

LOL, I said the same thing until I remembered those cranks have a "special" spacing to use a shorter BB to cut down on weight.

I almost responded with a WTF?!?!? :sneaky:

That's wierd...the new LX cranks I just bought for my xc bike use a 121mm spindle for a normal 3-ring chainline.

People are getting wacky these days...

It uses a 121 or a 126. It's because the cranks press further onto the spindle than the old standard, and doesn't mess up your chainline. A 121 is equivilant to a 113.

Exactly... The best part is, when I told my LBS I wanted the new 121 BB, they insisted that it was a 113 I needed, and I didn't know what I was talking about. So I bought the 113 like they said, and had to return it and go to good old reliable self-informed mailorder.

They couldn't make XT lighter, so they had to make LX heavier.

Putting the outer ring in the middle position could cause some issues with chain alignment relative to the upper wearplate/bashguard tolerance. Most ramped chainrngs are a little thick for this application. If you want to run a 44T ring I'd suggest getting a new ring from Salsa. It needs to be no larger than 4mm thick - 3mm works the best. The crank you are using should be fine. I'm not quite sure I received the email here ate the office. Please feel free to give us a call at 207.772.3132 Thanks

The filing may have been pertaining to the granny ring bolt tabs on the back side of the driveside crankarm. Sometimes they bottom out on the backplate when the crankarm is re-installed (assuming the backplate has been spaced out correctly). They have to be filed or Dremeled to clear. I believe that is what I may have been referring to. Also, if you are going to run a 44T ring be sure you have a 44T bashguard to go with it. If this doesn't ring a bell let me know.
