I want to move to BC!!!
Hi all,

I ve just found out that E13 is now properly represented in the UK by Silverfish UK (Raceface, Cove, ...) Thats good news as long as they stick to the proper European prices instead of some silly new UK pricing invention.

Euro price for a DRS , 139eu.
Former UK price for a DRS 200eu.

BTW in two weeks i ll install my (US purchased) DRS so i ll get back to you with pics.

I guess that bitching on RM has paid dividends for silverfish.... and they dont even know me....

I might actually be able to get my hands on a DRS at last. The last "distributor" seemingly made it as difficult as possible to buy anything.

Well it is good news indeed.... e13ers drinking pints rejoice! Silverfish are good chaps although their raceface/cove pricing SUCKS. I hope they do better with E13.

Just out of curiosity, how does that price compare to the US purchased drs converted to eu?

We are really excited about broadening our distribution in the UK. Thanks for noticing!

Dave i am more than happy that me and 2 scotts pointed out the bad points of the former UK distribution and finally you got a proper distributor.... i just hope that they offer normal prices...and not what they do with Raceface and Cove.

To be honest when you break it down Frameworks were not to bad on prices I think the main thing was not distributing them. They were selling them for £135, which is completive with MRP.

I cannot see Silver Fish doing them for any less than £120+

LOOOL. You must be joking obviously.... why the hell one should pay 120quid when the price for the rest of Europe is 85quid????????????????????

I dont want to sound offensive or anything... but i hate greedy middlemen.... 1quid IS NOT 1usd.

But its competitive with the rest of the products on the market and that will be one of the main factors in pricing, as long as they can cover their costs it will be a case of pricing against the competition, so until everyone drops prices there is no reason that Silverfish should charge much less for an e13.......besides we are purely speculating here and that aint very fair!
£120 would be a very competitive price based on the current chain devices on the UK market, personally I cant imagine it being any less than this, besides when I imported mine from Go-Ride it didnt work out that much cheaper than £120 once all taxes were taken into account.

Well, check with the European distributor mate, 139eu or 84quid, now thats a proper price.... i agree on the competitiveness and all, but for 120 someone is making something (big) extra on the side...out of our pockets. I got mine for 75quid from the US

The tax man, is the euro taxman now, hence all imports into europe are taxed equally. France, Netherlands, Italy etc...have or should have the same tax rates as the UK.
Imho, its the middle man.

Not so, the import tax may be set universally (as far as I know) but VAT rates remain different depending on which country you are in.

So there you go, you said it was the same and its not, 1/2% difference :eviltongu Though I have to say this universal VAT is not how I understood it, I was under the impression that there was still freedom for member countries to set their own rates within given guidelines, but what do I know, its a couple of years since I did my European economics stuff!

Anyway, this is going a bit off topic now....I never said that bike stuff in the UK wasnt a rip off though, in comparison to elsewhere though I do know that the margins at least at the point of the transaction that I see it is not that fantastic! If I was silverfish I would still be looking at somewhere around £120 as a competitive pricepoint given the current chain devices on the UK market, at the end of the day they will be pricing against that and not what we can pick them up for in the US or mainland Europe, harsh but true :( Until the industry as a whole does something this will prevail.

No I am not joking and I do know what I am talking about, and I do know that $1 is not £1 but its not far off when you work it out.

This is how it would work out if you were to import one by the book

Evil Chain guard MSRP $149.95
Works out at £85.65 (@ 1.75)
+ VAT @ 17.5% = £14.99
+ Duty @ 4.7% = £4.02
+ Shipping = £20
+ Customs handling fee = £12

Total = £136.66

Now if silver fish work on the same mark up as the US and the shipping and Customs fee will be lower due to bulk ordering, if they did the guard for £120 then that would be a very good price.

And by the way the mark up in the cycle trade is very poor especially when you compare it to other products. Did you know that some jewellery items have a 300% mark up.

This Euro thing you say that the guard is 139 well that works out at £94.01 (@ 1.47) Now I know you wont have to pay Duty on top but you still have to pay for shipping and you have the hassle and wait to get the item. I personal don’t see the point of this when you can just pop down to your local bike shop and get one and if you are nice to them they might knock a bit off ;)

The point of this is that the cycle trade is not greedy in fact I would say the opposite and you are not being ripped off :thumb:

TomDH. The European price is the landmark, anything more than that is bad trade imho. I am not saying that the bike business is greedy or anything in total. I am just making out some distinct points. In a common market, there is no rationale behind uneven markets. Period.

Yannis

If the UK goverment is charging more tax than the rest of Europe thats is another story
If e13 or other brands charge a different factory price for the UK and a different for the rest of Europe then it is another story as well.
But if non of the above applies, then we got an issue.
