Quantcast

Eathernet Linking

So I decide to reswect my desk top (G3 tower) and am trying to network it to my lap top for an internet conection via eathernet.
I cant seem to be able to do it with out getting in trouble with comcast.
The DT doesnt have airport so it cant get on the wirelesss server and I am not allowed to drill holes in the floor to run an eathernet line to the base station.
Is my goal possible? If so, how?:clue:

Sorry, I may not be understanding right here - is your internet connection a wireless one?

Or is your problem that the laptop can be located near the wired internet connection, but your desktop is on a different floor from the internet connection?

Uh... This is getting overly complex for what would be a $20 investment in a wireless card.

They have about 20 of 'em that are priced between $20 and $30.

Just found this one, for $14.99 after mail-in rebate:

If you really want to go the complicated route, you may be able to get away with using a crossover network cable, and setting up Internet Connection Sharing on the laptop. It's really not worth the headache, though - just buy a wireless card. You'd need to buy a network cable or a cheap switch anyway, so it's not like you're going to get out of this for free.
