ELF Claims Responsibility for Utah Fire
Thursday, June 17, 2004

SALT LAKE CITY — A radical environmental group on Thursday officially claimed responsibility for Monday's lumberyard fire in West Jordan that caused $1.5 million in damage.

The Associated Press received an e-mail today from the North American Earth Liberation Front (search) Press Office saying they considered graffiti left at the fire scene and an earlier fax to a news outlet to be "a legitimate claim of responsibility."

The FBI and other agencies are investigating the fire as an act of ecoterrorism. The ELF is a loosely organized group of militant environmentalists which generally communicates with the media through e-mail.

Well this has become about a standard story, hasnt it? My question is WTF do these people think they're going to accomplish? Do they think some company is going to go "damn, they set another fire! Wow,it has magically occured to me that harming the environment is bad and that I should stop cutting trees"
O just dont see the logic.

Anyone got any defense for these guys?

Well burning a lumber yard would accelerate the need to "restock" a lumber yard.....didn't they just shoot themselves in the foot? Creating the need to kill more trees by destroying the ones already dead.....

Interesting tactics.

I am going to go out and piss on a super model....so they will fall in love with me. Oh, wait, that will make them NOT like me more. :( Dang! :D

destroying property won't do anything cuz they're insured. Until ELF starts taking lives, no one will listen to 'em. Inconvenience is just that... big deal.

I love Eco-terrorists, they are such an excellent model of a self-refuting, self-contradicting organization.

I wonder how much they contributed to "global warming"( ) and the degradation of the local air quality by burning that lumber yard?

Anyone read the book "The Covenant of the Flame" by David Morrell (he wrote Rambo). It's about environmental terrorism. I guess it's only a matter of time before groups like the ELF start killing the executives of companies they deem to be raping the environment.

LOL....Steve Irwin.....I don't quite know what to say about that bloke. He's pretty much viewed as a dickhead in Australia. I was watching a show the other night where he was touring along the coast of Western Australia. He was at a place called Monkey Mia where people go to interact with wild dolphins (your kinda place I know Shirley). There was a whole bunch of people (tourists) standing in the water with the dolphins and he was talking to the camera. Well I guess he didn't wanna take sh*t from the other people there so he toned down his "Australian" accent. I've seen him do it in interviews to the Australian media too, speaks much more normally not in this exaggerated drawl he uses for American consumption. What a wanker.

hahaha!

When I was in Australia last year I contacted his people to see if we could get him to talk to a few thousand Marines and Australian Soldiers doing a big training exercise. Or at least get him to make an appearance, you know, USO style, to make the trip a bit more memorable cause alot of the guys never got to leave the woods. He wasnt booked up or anything, but he just blew us off.

Doesn't surprise me at all Shirley. Says all you need to know about the bloke. That and the "I'll feed a 15' crocodile by hand while holding my month old child" incident.....he's also in a bit of strife with the Australian authorities over some shenanigans in Antarctica. What a tool.

Andy, don't you know you can't be a Christian and moderate? It's all Pat Robertson and killing abortion doctors or nothing.
Me a moderate? You must be joking.

Are you threatening me? (done in my best Beavis voice with my shirt pulled up on my head)

Well, moderate on the scale of right wing fanatical relgious zealots. :p
This is true, they are more concerned with keeping God in their box than actually engaging their brain and thinking (which the Bible encourages Christians to do).

I'm a zealot for God, just not a zealot to religion (there is a huge difference).
