I think has also been a consistent and steady hand in leading the government so far, which is another good sign. Compare it to Michael Steele or David Patterson for how not to do it.
between the two for comparison, how many people have they nominated or appointed who were not properly vetted, or stepped down due to their "issues"? i find it odd you would disregard this.
It will be a subtle culture change. I use TV as my societal compass, and I see some really crappy shows on now, like the entire VH1 showcase.

I am hoping we see smarter programming in the future, and a different attitude around America.
with less right-wing extremism - and its implied accountability - do you really think programming will shift away from pure crap to the high-minded? if his social policies end up taking away emphasis on traditional marriage (and i certainly don't see him re-enforcing the institution), what do you think will happen to the proportion of single mothers? and then, how will this affect our overall education levels? i believe it will result in a widening continuum.

forget for a moment this opinion is coming from me, and investigate if this is a reasonable expectation. also, if i've disregarded or completely missed anything, point it out

I'm not sure what you mean.

While Steele has no real legislative power, he seems like a boob which makes him an ineffective leader.

Patterson highlighted his ineffectiveness with his senatorial appointment process (he is now less popular the Spitzer during his hooker phase).

But I am not sure what I disregarded...

I think with TV it is a two way street - TV programming affects its viewers, and its viewers determine what they want to see on TV.

If there is a demand for smarter programming, then the real stupid shows will wither away. If TV execs decide that smarter programming will be more popular, that's what we will be watching.

i'm referring to the hit parade of seemingly qualified - yet embroiled - nominees who except for geithner, have not made it to the other side of the crucible: richardson, giethner, freeman, daschle, nazareth, gregg, killefer, atkinson...

i take it by the look on your face this does not trouble you one bit. and please understand the look on my face is one of confusion when you held bush to such high standards why you've now either relaxed, or traded them. am i wrong?

if you're referring to the manner in which he let rush pimp-slap him back to the slave quarters, i agree

I'm no economist and the AIG thing hurts me just as much as you, but as far as I understand it, it is arguably very necessary even though it assbackwards.

On the other fronts, it has been LESS THAN 2 MONTHS since Obama took office. In that time, he has taken real steps on pretty much everything you mentioned to begin the process of reversing 8 YEARS of complete ****upitude. On all of those fronts, he has been as honest as you can be in 2 minute soundbites, and has been very open about the process he and his team are going through.

I don't agree with everything he has done, but I'm also not asking for perfection, which it seems that you are. Good luck holding anyone up to an impossible standard.

I tend to think of the failed nominees as "Thats their problem".

They were asked before their nominations "Is there any reason why you couldn't accept your nomination?", and they all answered no.

If I thought there was corruption involved, well, then I would have a problem. But Obama was decisive about his decisions, and no one has questioned them.

Compare it to Patterson, who allowed Kennedy to run the show until it was obvious she was not up for the scrutiny with being a public official.
