TROOPER: Detective Lt. Jason Letourneau
STATION: St. Albans
CONTACT#: 802-524-5993

INCIDENT DATE/TIME: Summer 2019 through January 2020
LOCATION: Alburgh and South Burlington, VT

VIOLATIONS:
Aggravated domestic assault
Domestic assault (three counts)
Criminal threatening (two counts)
2nd degree unlawful restraint

ACCUSED: Christopher Matott
AGE: 31
CITY, STATE OF RESIDENCE: Alburgh, VT

VICTIM: (The Vermont State Police does not release the names of victims of sexual assault or domestic violence.)

SUMMARY OF INCIDENT:

Following an investigation that began in early February, the Vermont State Police has cited Christopher Matott, 31, of Alburgh on suspicion of repeatedly physically assaulting and threatening a woman with whom he was in a relationship. Matott is a Winooski Police Department officer and is currently assigned to a Drug Enforcement Administration Task Force in Vermont.

The investigation began Feb. 6, 2020, when the state police was contacted by the Grand Isle County Sheriff's Department after sheriff’s deputies served an Extreme Risk Protection Order that had been taken out against Matott. The Sheriff’s Department requested that state police investigate the allegations.

The 29-year-old victim met with detectives from the state police and provided a statement along with other supporting evidence. The victim detailed a series of physical assaults that included strangling, being restrained by force, receiving repeated threats of death and violence, and being prevented from leaving a room or residence. According to the victim and the evidence she provided, the assaults took place on at least four occasions from July 2019 and to January 2020 at a home in Alburgh and a hotel in South Burlington.

The state police has worked closely with the office of Grand Isle County State’s Attorney Douglas DiSabito throughout the investigation. On Wednesday, Feb. 19, 2020, the State’s Attorney's Office reviewed the state police affidavit and requested a citation be issued to Matott for the violations noted above. Matott was ordered to appear at 12:45 p.m. Thursday in the Criminal Division of Vermont Superior Court in North Hero to answer the charges.

Following service of the Extreme Risk Protection Order, Matott’s firearms were seized, and he was suspended from duty with the Winooski Police Department. Further questions regarding his employment status should be directed to WPD.

No further information is currently available. The affidavit of probable cause will be filed with the court and made public following arraignment.

I read the comments (on a Gary Brecher post). And this comment was good.
Putting the beat in neighborhood beat cop.

Also, I'm convinced now more than ever that the wrong type of people are attracted to and recruited for police work. Anecdotally speaking, the majority of the people I knew who pursued criminal justice and corrections degrees were those least suitable to a position of upholding the law. Call it a cocktail of being inherently aggressive, desire for respect/control, and a particular type of hubris that made them think carrying a gun and wielding that type of power will fulfill them inside. Combine this with a fraternal order of police that seems as willfully blind to their abuses and need for reform as the NRA does to the 2nd amendment, and it's no wonder we are seeing them act with impunity to crush the right to peaceful protest. Abuse begets more abuse, and is a clear illustration of what the people are demanding in the first place. It's like a self fulfilling prophecy that those who control are blind to.

Winner.

The two guys I grew up with that went into "law enforcement" were absolutely the two guys least suitable for the job and fit your description to a T.

Have the naive "few bad apples" chanters seen enough footage from enough cities yet to know that over the top, dickbag cop violence is a completely widespread culturally ingrained problem yet?

hhhmmmmmmm???????

Believe it yet?

cool...so now we have to be a psychiatrist too! :thumb:

add that to the 50 hats the public expects us to wear.

-social worker
-marriage counselor
-track star
-competitive level shooter
-EMT
-Hazmat specialist
-Lawyer
-Bomb technician
-Juvenile counselor
-Admin clerk
-Professional driver
-Public punching bag
-Defensive tactics specialist
-........................................................

all for about half of what a good truck driver can make! who wouldn't want this job!

for the record: an autistic person can whoop your ass just as bad as someone without a social/mental handicap.

You are right, we should get rid of all those job requirements and replace it with two simple ones

-Don't be an asshole
-Don't let your coworkers do anything to make you look like an asshole

Lots of us knew it. Now the world sees it. Now there's no excuse for letting this shit continue.

These massive police armies need to be broken up.

Honestly our biggest problem right now is deliberate misinformation and the morons all too willing to fall in line with their tongue lapping a boot. A good percentage of this country honestly thinks this is some gang called antifa.

Local um...'community staples'......okay fuck it, it was the local hospital honest to god shut down with roof scouts saturday night because the overpaid dipshit CEO had seen on the 'news' that antifa was paying people to come to remote rural communities in buses to loot.

That was a reddit joke thread that fox news picked up and pretended was real.

What's even more telling than the blood rolling out of his ear is the reaction from all the cops.

protecting and serving indeed
Gentlemen is 75. He is alive, in hospital in serious condiltion.
The two cops that helped him to the ground have been suspended.

How about they also suspend every one of the douche-bags that ignored him and walked on by? Good cops may ass.

Defunding I more than suspect would lead to an massive upsurge in civil forfeiture...... an already abused law that's seemingly specifically designed for corruption and abuse.

Did you see the initial press release from the city? They said someone was injured when he tripped and fell.

Now watch that video again.

The guy who shoved him actually looks shocked when he sees him fall. I'm assuming he heard that unmistakable bowling ball sound of a skull on concrete, but he actually showed one inkling of humanity for a second. Then the frat boys pull him off and you can tell they're all deliberately not looking.

Suspension is cute. They need to put these tools in jail. Psychopaths, every one of them.

One other thing that stuck out, it appears the old dude was trying to return a dropped helmet...

Not to mention the right wing "soft on crime" attack adds that would follow any local leader to even mention something like defunding out loud.

Having dealt with unions for 20 years and being part of a professional union I see them as a big part of the problem. When they get to the point where they defend any action of a member, no matter how bad it was, they take down the whole organization. A union should protect members from unfair treatment, not defend members no matter what. Anyway I don't know the details but this is promising

And the area’s largest labor group threatened to remove the Seattle Police Officers Guild (SPOG) later this month unless the union admits that racism is a problem in law enforcement and agrees to address that problem in negotiating its next contract with the city.
