i did, in order to illustrate your conflation of the military -- 100% voluntary -- with socialism -- slightly south of 100%

until you grasp that, you will not reach anyone -- much less right wingers -- with the argument that socialized medicine works, unless you first acknowledge the 2 systems could not be more different wrt "membership". the fact you are an evangelist for socialized medicine is fine until you gloss over the very legitimate claim of resistance to having it foisted upon "members".

far as i can tell, no one has successfully argued that health care is a right or an entitlement, but the angle of 'mandate' still has breath, if even moribund

i'm actually surprised at your position, given your libertarian leanings on most issues. but maybe i have mischaracterized you?

I see what you mean now...makes sense in a twisted Stinkle kind of way! Military health care is a socialized system, that is given. And for the most part, it works. (When I counsel kids on re-enlistments (A task that gets harder every time...) it is a big selling point). But it works because it is administered on a smaller, local level. It gets gunked up when dis located, centralized offices get involved. Honestly, I do consider myself mostly Libertarian, but in the left wing sense of the word. I want government out of my business, want to be left alone to do as I please as long as it doesnt infringe on my neighbors thing. But I see health care as something that is needed before nukes and government subsidies for oil sheiks and Wall Street robber barons...

Seriously? You don't have to participate in any of our "socialist" enterprises. You might have to fund them, but nobody's forcing you to participate in our schools, fire depts, police, etc, etc, etc.
