So how do you reconcile the fact that some of those friends engaging in spirited debates voted for Trump?
I don't think any of them have. If they did, they are smart enough not to mention it. I know our former naval Lt. Cmdr friend abstained in 2016, and went Biden this year, though reluctantly. The former Air force, whatever, voted libertarian in 2016 & 2020. The army major down the street wrote in Jeb (I assume he added the exclamation point) also voted Biden. The submarine kid next door is a surprising hippie, votes (D) on the regular. He's my favorite.

Open support of Trump is a character flaw too large to ignore.

Sociopath's burn down everyone and everything within arm's length when cornered. As much as I cherish watching this house of cards come crashing down, the collateral I reckon is going to be orders of magnitude beyond what's been established already.... Either the lion's share of Republicans distance themselves from Trump like a pack of animals that abandon the old and weak, or it galvanizes the party and they become even moreso complicit with what is about to occur as Trump is the proof prototype for how to establish ultimate power.

Even Fox is calling his bullshit. The GOP knows that Fox is what keeps them in power. Watch for them to start cutting the anchor loose by tomorrow.

The future looks complicated for the GOP.
Trump was extremely charismatic... and even then could only win once. He is probably one of the greatest salesman in the world... but the GOP product will be a tough sell in the future.

Sometime in the next 2-3 elections, all those DACA kids will (likley) be democrat-voting US citizens in now battleground states.
Texas will go blue in the near future, as the hispanic population growth is outpacing caucasians by far and religion becomes less of an issue for younger voters.

Whats going to happen then? what buttons will be left to the GOP to push for manipulation?
Those are some interesting years to come.

meh

come january he's irrelevant. They'll just pretend he never existed. And thereby absolve their own involvement in getting him placed.

They will probably start talking about their big tent again. Perhaps sew one together using the old hoods and robes.

No they won’t.
Guy who lives in the LA area thinks all latinos are daca recipients?

There are just as many dumb latinos as there are white people with an "I got mine, fuck the rest y'all" mindset for sure.

The bootstraps narrative actually applies to far more latinos than white people in murka. Plenty buy into that shit because they actually did live it to a degree. We may be fukked.

No. Guy in LA thinks many DACA recipients are Latinos.
If you are DACA and entered the country before the age of 16... you probably arrived with mom/dad/older sibblings who are most likely still illegal alliens living in the US.

The whole "I got mine, fuck yall" is very human behavior. And even among latinos there are several sub-groups who really dislike each other (like cubans and mexicans, peruvians and chileans, etc..), so I dont see a "clan spirit" in there.

But having mom/dad on the line when you vote is a strong incentive to not vote for a republican who wants to make their lives harder
