My Hope's were fine until a seal broke due to cold temps, while racing at Plattekille. Never ridden that type of trail, that fast ever before that point; kinda reset my bar. XT can't stop me for very long before cooking. Saints can stop me. Avid? I melted a pair of Juicy's. Formula's were good, but hard to find parts for.

That's kinda interesting to me, I've ridden them many times in -20F or so, seem to do fine. Just today I was remarking at one point how I love the action that's damn near the same as in the middle of the summer, vs. my fucked up shimanos that become an on/off switch with the lever engagement all the way out. Plus if you were actually riding DH, I'd imagine the seal and brakes stay pretty warm?
Hell, at least you should be able to get a Hope seal, vs. fuckyouimano.
The 2 piston XTs were ok for me for a little while, but from the beginning I was cooking them on some descents. The ice tech rotors definitely helped, but I'd do descents where I had to constantly brake on super steep grades and they would just fade/glaze. I'm not super impressed by the Hope power, but I need to do a better bleed (and have the kit for it now). I can say no hint of overheating on some of the same stuff, then again I went up to a 220mm front rotor.

In the past I have had success running a mixed setup. One resin pad and one sintered pad.

However, I look after my brakes and actually my pads always wear incredibly consistently, so...
From a thermodynamic POV, given that a metallic should transfer heat a little bit faster I can imagine a tiny advantage of putting the metal on the side that has less of an inherent heat sync (the inner, non-bolted side) to keep heat balanced maybe? Actually I can see arguments for both ways round but I don’t know the limiting factors with heat transfer.
