Hot take. Let the Democrats put up a candidate who could actually be considered left and watch them get 30%. If it wasn't for Covid Trump would have won this comfortably not in spite of but because of the preceding four years. And given your media landscape and electorate, I doubt it's going to change, even with the forseeable demographic development.

Saw this posted on another forum and it reflected my own experience. The red scare still appears to be part of American DNA and right wing media has been comfortbably building on that foundation:

The red scare is being peddled everywhere. Down here it's one of the most used arguments by the fundamentalist/religious/liberal combo. "We will become Venezuela" or "our future is Cuba" is run of the mill whenever a social equality measure gains some traction.

Hell, one of the so-called "top analists" by the local right-wing media was yesterday talking about the "latin-americanization" of the US elections, and how the vicious methods of populism have tainted the anglo-saxon immaculate decomcratic tradition...

EDIT: One of the jokes circulating down here upon the US elections' results was how long would it take for Trump to send everyone to bed once he called for the ballot count to stop. Our local Trump admirer -and the only presidente not renewing for a second mandate in Latin America in the last ~40 years- did that once he saw his irreversible defeat, instead of acnowledging it.

I'd be surprised if Biden gets PA, but GA is looking very interesting. NV needs to hurry up and finish too.

yesterday morning d2s was up in PA by about 700k votes. this morning that lead is down to about 165K with still under 90% reporting.

edit: there are still over 700k mail in & absentee ballots to count.

edit 2: given that biden has been taking well over 50% of the mail-in ballots, at this point i'd honestly be more surprised if he lost PA. why do you think d2s is trying desperately to stop the counting here?

I tracked votes on teh google for last 5 ish hours of voting yesterday in order to see how things were trending.

In that time 224,018 votes were counted in PA.

Unkajo got 159,896 of those, which is 71%.
Shitgibbon got 64,122, which is 29%
{I didn't include any other candidates, which doesn't look like a problem yet}.

Biden needs to get 61% of the remaining uncounted votes to just barely win. So, he is on track to do that and a little more. It looks like there are ~770k votes left to count.

When does counting start again in PA? The Google tracker hasn't moved since last night?

PS GA looks close too.
PPS 50% of Murica can still fuck off.

EDIT: Interesting, the google just updated and the percentage of counted votes went down overnight from 89% to 87%. I assume that is mail in votes arriving as they legally can in PA, but cue " teh FRAUDZ!"

I'm really surprised by NV, which is razor thin and hasn't moved in over a day, since it's basically just an extension of Arizona and IME, not very blue.

That was a really interesting and good read. And I don't know that I could find any holes in it...

Maybe I’m only seeing it this way because of my bubble, but I’ve noticed that any time someone comments on how voting choices shouldn’t impact friendships, it is always a trump/republican voter saying it aimed at democratic/liberal people. I don’t seem to see that comment going the opposite direction, from left to right. It’s become some sort of underhanded jab, where the right will take some fake moral higher-ground position.

That link makes an interesting point. I think Biden’s prior exposure to the public as VP kept him from looking like a “socialist” dem. All the other candidates were unproven in the US as a whole, although better known in their specific localities. With all the other Dems running being “unknown” it made it easier for the right to brand them as socialists and have that label stick.

Yeah. At first I thought I should be bigger than to let my politics interfere with friendships, but I’m finding that harder to do.

One way I’m seeing it now is that I have a large group of close friends in the LGBT community. If I have a friend who votes trump, that’s functionally a threat to the way of life of my LGBT friends.

I can excuse folks who vote republican for fiscal and military issues, or foreign policy reasons. I can tolerate the idea that they are anti abortion because of their beliefs. But the voting for Trump, particularly when they do it like cheering for a sports team, and trash talking the “opposition” is too much.
