They aren't cutting Medicare or SS for that matter! They have discovered a lot of fraud in Medicare, and they are going to clean it up. We will go bankrupt if the country continues to spend like it did. We take in plenty of tax dollars each year, much of it is misspent. Elon is a person who made his fortune here in the US. His family has money, but not that kind of money.

I live in a very red part of a blue state. I talk to my Trumpvoter neighbors and make it clear that I voted against him. I specifically make the point that “people like us” don’t want anyone else telling us how to live and in return we won’t tell anyone else how to live.
I make the point that it doesn’t affect me if someone’s brown or queer or illegal…as long as they don’t hassle me, who cares? I’ve yet to have one of them not agree. Even the church goer types will admit that it doesn’t matter. Some will balk at the foreigners until I ask them when was the last time they picked strawberries or if they’d rather have a Mexican or a methhead on their work crew…
People are just fucking brainwashed. They’re conditioned to think that liberuls hate them and want to ruin their country and way of life. Calling them names and being a dick to them reinforces that conditioning. Pointing out that we’re more alike than different gives them pause.

All of that said, I am a middle aged, straight, white man. It’s pretty easy for me to stand toe to toe with my neighbors and have these discussions. I very well understand that for others it is a lot harder & scarier.
We need to convince our peers and ourselves that the struggle is between ultra rich and the rest of us - not between libs and magas.

I work for an agency that just sent out a celebratory email about renaming the gulf of mexico....my partner watching the entire infrastructure that has kept at bay every single global pandemic but covid for 50 years completely disappear. I am much in the same boat. I would say my town might be 20% liberal and 80% Trump. I know every one of my VFW brothers voted for him and they all know I didn't. We don't talk politics too much, but we do talk about current events. It's always respectful..
