It is sort of weird that the whole thing is over. I remember watching the first Columbia launch...I think I was in grade 5.

Apparently the successor to the shuttle, the Orion spacecraft, was put on hold. Funding issues mostly.

It does surprise me that, in all of this time, created a better alternative to the shuttle, but then again, maybe they have and its still classified. Who knows.

there isnt some in our "back pocket" until commercial space flight becomes feasible(realistic.) we are still continuing our heavy rocket missions for satellites and such, but we will be hitchin a ride with the Ruskies
