I swear there was a thread on this sometime back, but my search yields nada.

I would like to hear/see ideas on protecting the rear shock of a Specialized Enduro. Mud season has given way to a rock throwing extravaganza and it's making me nervous. There was one home made version that looked promising, but I can't find it. Specialized makes a Mud Flap of their own, but it seems silly to actually buy something like this.

Here is an example [scroll down], but for a different bike.

Thanks, I'll be in the shed playing with old tires and plastic widgets i hopes of stumbling upon genius. :sneaky:

If you can get a neoprene shock boot I'd recommend that, protects it from all angles and holds oil against the slider. My friend put a set on an $#itty old ZZYZX fork and it got so much smoother from the latter.

Personally, I hate shock boots. You have to take them off regularly and clean underneath, otherwise dirt and crap gets worked underneath them eventually, and then the shock boot is just holding everything in, which scratches the hell of of air shocks.

It does work if you're careful about ripping them off and cleaning every ride though.

You could try finding an old beat front fender and rigging it up in there - all you should have to protect against is rocks, it won't hurt it to just get wet/dirty...
