Hi all,
I ve asked a rather silly question some time ago about increasing travel on an SX given a longer stroke shock. Well i guess now BETD gave me the solution ;)
Here is an x-post from mtbr.com
http://forums.mtbr.com/showthread.php?t=44158
Tell me what you think. The price seems nice
Yannis
Hey, gotta anymore info on this?
I followed the link and checked out their website. I am assuming this is a new product for them.
Keep us updated if you try this out on your SX, I just got mine a few months ago and I'm getting upgrade fever already.

Just re-read the MTBR thread, a 16" BB Height :help: yikes!

cheers

Yannis,

that will increase the leverage ratio on the shock, which can be negative to shock feel and durability. Just something to know before you get too excited.

Text from the MTBR.com thread:

Yes we now have that link (made). It will give you 5.25" and 6" of travel. I have them in Red, Blue, Silver, Black or Gold. the price is £100 plus
postage.

And here's follow up to some questions I asked:

The geometry is approx 1/2 deg tighter and the bb lifts slightly (approx
16mm). The compression rate is virtually the same.
The tester of this link say that the bike is plusher and they don't catch
the pedals like they used to. If you want to fit a coil over shock it will
be ok, as this link also fits the sx dual frame and that uses a coil over.
I have included a picture of the link, i don't have a picture of one on a
bike yet
I hope this helps.

And the 16" bb was for a 99 Enduro - not the 2004 Enduros and Enduro SXs.

I think Yannis should be the guinea pig to test this new add on out. :thumb:

Hey Zark, as MMcG said, 16" is for the 99' FSR bike on the BB. For the 03/04 SX it is 0.3" height increase, 1/2 degree increased steepness and no compression rate change at all according to BETD.

The person is also commonly refered to as the Wingman.
Slang taken from fighter pilots that fend off enemy planes (in this case jealous fat friends) while the bomber goes for his target (above mentioned cutie).

What part of the UK are you staying in?
I got family up in Yorkshire and am considering bringing my bike to check out the lake district next time i'm over.

Hmmm, i wonder how BETD claims no change in leverage, given 1.5" stroke producing 6" (whereas it normaly gives 4.5")..... its either me loosing my geometric touch...or BETD is using non-Eucledian geometry ...and fractals...

I'll be the guinea pig -- someone get me a red or black link plate before Friday and I'll give a 2-day test at Whistler on my SX this weekend :)

I saw something about a new 12mm thru axle seatstay that allows a 26" wheel for the bighit from BETD as well.. makes me wish I still had my BigHit.

Not to sound like a jerk, but I don't get the whole 'upgraded' travel thing. If you want a 6" bike, why not buy a 6" bike from the outset? It's not like you pay for a bike based on its travel (mostly...) There are expensive 3-4" bikes and good-value 5-6" bikes and cheap 8" bikes these days, and vice-versa...there's a bike in any given travel range for your price point, really. So why go with a jerry-rigged system?

I guess I'm a hypocrite, because I have an extended-stroke shock on my RFX...but that doesn't increase the leverage ratio or change the static geometry or pedaling, it's just .6 inches or so more travel, and it came with the Avalanche that I found.

You got some point there bro. Now here is the deal. By flipping the existing link and adding 0.25" or 0.5" of shock stroke with a 0.25" i2i increase, you can get 5.25 or 6" respectively and you DONT affect the existing geometry and you dont suffer from tire or stays collision with the seat tower, you just need a new shock. I suspect that betd is some sort of similar solution.

As for the SX, for 03/04 it was the only frame solution from Specialized for a tough trail or light FR bike, for those of us that didnt want a 24" rear wheel.

I think we all secretly wish we had an extra inch or two
