two engineers in my office: "blah blah blah, yada yada yada, something something, uni-vac."

me: "what's a uni-vac?"

Engineer 1 looks at engineer 2.

Engineer 1: "what? you don't know what a uni-vac is?"

They look each other for a second then laughter erupts between them.

I turn around & keep working.
:rolleyes: :crazy::nerd::disgust1:

The term "computer bug" arose from the original univac. One of it's first major malfunctions was due to a moth that had gotten into the case, fried on a vacuum tube, and shorted out the system.

Admiral Grace Hopper FTW
didn't you date her ?

I always loved her demonstration ofthe difference between a nanosecond and a Millisecond ( and no its is not the difference between how long DRB and MMike last during sex )

Ok I still deal with Gracie's legacy. Namely some fossilized COBOL programmers.

And lets not forget the great god ForTran

I'm an engineer and I'm pretty confident none of the other senior engineers in my office would have any damn clue what that was. Maybe the one controls guy would actually, but that's kinda his territory.

What sort of engineers were they? Programmers/electrical or something?

I still have a piece of wire she gave me - the length, of course, is the distance an electrical signal propages in a nanosecond.
