Whoo major bummer...Westy said:I got to see the aftermath of a CNC machine that had a magnesium fire. The operator accidentally turned off the coolant which prevented the magnesium that was beeing cut from catching fire. Without the coolant it of course caught fire, the operator panicked and turned the coolant on which let to an explosion. The guy suffered some nasty 2nd degree burns and the $500,000 machine was a complete loss.
I wash thinking the same thing to.stosh said:What the hell is the purpose of a Magnesium dash?

"big ass fires"?loco said:Don't know about the mag dash, but in several of many big ass fires down here, we have included old parts that have magnesium.
They did get insurance money for the loss of the machine. The guy did not get fired but did suffer some nasty burns. The company was lucky they did not get sued because machining magnesium is dangerous and they should have installed a fire supression system that could have handled a magnesium fire. The machine was cutting steering column mounts for corvettes.Lefty said:Whoo major bummer...
So his boss must be very pissed off :mumble: i geuss. Did they get a machine from the insurance company orso. Did he got fired for this.

I've heard that RS Mag-21 legs will burn, but that the newer legs (from all brands) have too much Al in them to burn. I've got a few Mag legs in my basement that I waiting to throw on a bonfire.
