* EDIT: actually, we are down to $250 as I overlooked a small detail...

I look at slickdeals.net everyday, and today, there is an exceptional deal... Here is how it will work...

Go to your local RadioShack store(s) and buy up to 5 of these (DVD players):
http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2106538

Check local availability here (as online inventory is out): http://www.radioshack.com/product/inStoreAvail.jsp?productId=2106538

They will cost you around $140 apiece after sales tax.

When you get home, apply for these two mail in rebates (one need the original UPC, the other, a copy:

http://rsk.imageg.net/graphics/coupon/r2168390_rebatecoupon.pdf
http://rsk.imageg.net/graphics/coupon/r2174978_rebatecoupon.pdf

The rebates total $135. That puts your total cost per DVD player at $5 bucks.

Lastly, you sell these puppies on eBay for around $60 bones (check "completed auctions" on eBay for "Axion DVD player 3.6". Voilà! - $50 profit per item x 5= $250.

* note - sometimes these rebates take 6-8 weeks to get in my experience...

Heheh... nope. The last thing I did was to buy about 20 NorthFace backpacks at Gander Mt. for about $250. Sold them all on eBay for about $825.

Read the rebate before you buy 10 of them. One of the rebates is only for 5 per household.

Probably correct... I dont know if they key on your name or adress... Althogh Im sure it is adress as there are a few "John Smith's" around. :)
So use 2 different names.

With and with out the middle initial. but watch out for that too, some of those rebates in the fine print , will only accept residential addresses.

I ended up getting 3 of them... this stuff is more of an amusement to me... a small diversion as it were... ;)

Some people do this stuff for a living... Im sure there are websites dedicated specifically to making money on these rebate deals.

Im sure one can make 20-30k per year if you really focused on it.

Do demand side economics apply here? At any given time there are only so many people that are going to want to buy a DVD player at a given price. If resellers flood the market with DVD players the people that are going to buy a DVD at the given price will go buy it. People who think the price is too high will just wait until the price is lowered. Each seller will be forced to keep lowering the price to undercut the price of their competitor to get rid of additional units.

Sounds like a good way to get screwed. Since technology stuff is devalued so quickly as new technology comes along, have to sell quick and low or you will lose what (if any) profit you could have hoped to have earned.

Nope - got 3 though...

Turns out it was a mistake, and they did retract one of the rebates... but a clerk called corporate headquarters and they stated that they would honor both as they came in. In short, the deal was only "online" for a couple hours this morning".

They have to honor the original deal anyway - to not would constitute fraud.

The *.pdf of the original deal is here if anyone needs it:

Wow, dude. You must have a ton of sh!t lying around!

My problem is that I live an apartment without a lot of storage and I also don't have a lot of cash to buy stuff with.

I do hop a chance to sell something for an inflated price on ebay every now and then
:p
