I've seen many pro's sell their special edition bikes and protos over the classifieds on different forums. Special geo Demo's from Brendog, old team intense's, Darrens Sx Trail. I think I also saw Bryce and Polc selling their stuff. I agree with Monarch it may depend on a deal and maybe in some cases it's not as big of a deal as the internerdz want to make it.
Not sure why this is such a big deal to some of you. Pros sell their stuff all the time, and many of them use the $$ to supplement what are otherwise pretty low paying contracts. Unless a contract specifically says otherwise this is hardly out of line. As for selling a proto, I'm of the opinion that as long as all parties are okay with it then it's really a matter of the buyer being aware of what they are getting.
I see no problems in pros selling their stuff, but I see a problem in pros selling (maybe collapsing) prototypes.
I don't think there's anything wrong with a pro selling his goods, but this is a one of a kind, not yet released, kind of freaky deal. I would expect evil wouldn't approve of him selling it yet, but maybe that was an out clause of his contract.

I have never heard of a mfg allowing sponsored riders to sell unreleased prototypes. Huge disaster waiting to happen with that.
Agreed. At the very least, I would need to see the bike in person and ride it first.

This is the second Evil Carbon prototype I received. The first one survived a year of abuse and I figured I would quit while I was ahead and build up a freshy.
(The one from the G Shock video is for sale frame only, too...)
This frame, fork, wheels and rear brake have only been ridden for about a month- very minimal.
Generally speaking, companies do not advocate selling prototypes and usually want those back or destroyed so they can't be sold. That said, who knows what payments (if any) Zink got from Evil during his time as a sponsored athlete and this could be a way for him to recoup some of his cash.

I personally don't know who was in the right or wrong, but it clearly wasn't discussed amongst all parties.
Expressing your anger on twitter is very professional... Inform your employees what is acceptable and what is not. It's a small industry so I doubt that the coastal guys would go against scott wishes even after leaving the company.
the scott thing makes no sense, if they signed with another company, they are free to do with their old gear as they please.
Unless their previous contract stipulates they must return all gear they recieved- as it was on "loan" not a thing to keep as payment ?
In paintball its perfectly normal Pros sell their used gear. but seeing prototypes for sale hardly ever happens there.
Its often a thing they do out of need tho, to pay the bills etc, a lot of pros, make a living from it, but its not well paid. only a very few make a decent living off riding bikes.
