I think in the bike industry for a lot of products its a great idea. At least, have the option for direct purchase at MSRP, and then a price for stores if they want to stock it. Just eliminate the distributors.

I know at least here in Canada, there are a few distributors whos sole purpose is to simply raise the pricing on things. They're almost completely useless. Being able to go direct would solve many issues, and for Evil I think its a great idea.

Ditto. Not too bad of a price given what you're getting but yeah, still pretty much the retail pricing at this stage. Depending on shipping cost and import duties I'd be pretty keen to grab one.

I totally agree.

I could go without purchasing directly, but where an idea like this would benefit us all is in the warranty department. Too many times have I given product back to the bike store, that will just sit there for a week before they get around to questioning the distributer. Then the distributer dicks around for ages.

If we could do it directly like how some companies already do, there would be a lot less wasted time on everyone's behalf. Sram.

Direct to customer sales can work just great when done well. I look at Y-T as an example of a company which, presumably, does this well. They sell a very good mid end bike at a low end price. Good on them.

IF Evil goes the direct route, and if their direct to customer price is below what their dealers charge, then their dealers will almost assuredly dump Evil en masse. This needn't be a problem, as Evil would then be the only Y-T type bike company in the US. Not the worst position to be in.

But they must ensure very high product quality and customer service, as without a dealer network, Evil would have no customer service "buffer." All problems would now be perceived as Evil's fault. It's quite a change, but again not exactly insurmountable.

I do have a question of my own, though: What's the reason for all of the hype and excitement over the Undead frame? From the little I've read, this frame has been ridden by very few people, Evil doesn't have a great track record for quality, and there are several fantastic frames out there which are proven to be durable, versatile, reasonably priced, and wonderful to ride. Is it just excitement over an independent new player, or is there something tangible here?

in seriousness, i don't know if you ever had a chance to ride the revolt, but it was one of the best riding bikes out there. One that works is worth being excited about, although as you pointed out, the jury is still out on whether it works for the long haul.

I just got an Undead from Fedex yesterday, and pictures don't do it justice! So well thought out and stealthy (think SR71). Started building it last night and build is going smooth.

I rode one a while back and was quite impressed even though it was set up for one of those WC types (30 lbs. lighter than me and I still only used half travel), and am sure everyone will be quite impressed. This bike will be somewhat of a demo bike if you can make it out to Port Angeles...haha

I agree with your concept, but not sure about your example. I tried to go direct to Rockshox to warranty a reverb and they made me go through a shop. Does SRAM do direct CS, while RS does not?

That's respectable. Can you comment on the 3350$ price? Is it shop or future direct one? If the latter I think it would be hard to compete even with SC, not to mention YT who want to go carbon next year.

Frames will be $3350 USD / 2,999.99 Euro which will include: FOX RC4 w/ Kashi Coat, integrated headset, DT protector, chainstay protector, and shuttle guard.

As far as the method for distribution of non-warranty frames - I can't comment on that at this time. Kevin knows all the details regarding this which are still being worked out.

It's funny that people get upset when Evil might do direct but it's ok for Turner to sell direct. LOL.

The majority of distributors in Canada are a joke, all they do is jack up prices and make people buy online.

Anyone with the undead turned the headset cups to slack?

Not wanting to bust mine,and just asking if the cups are tapped out and spun round?

Yep, Just used a nylon rod and hammer and dropped them out of either end and span the around.
Also using flip chips in high setting.

First night of shuttles with the Undead and very pleased. Quiet, lands solid, rips corners, pedals great, pops whenever you want to, and eats the chunder. Not seeing any flaws. Built it with solid parts at 38.5lbs and am very pleased with it.

interestingly, cool mountainbike content pops up not infrequently within apple's marketing content; seems one of apple's madmen is a rider.

Barham has sold a couple images to Apple. Definitely a rider somewhere in their marketing team.
