An apartment building near the GWB exploded. Looks like construction crews got into a gas line. Unless something else happened that is.

NYC DOT called my office and said theres was an explosion and to reroute all (truck) permits (thats what we do)
Ooh, that's terrible. Many years ago I worked security for a residential building that had a bad gas explosion that totally destroyed two apartments. The gawkers were so bad they had to hire security. You could see cracks in the hallway walls for two floors up and two floors down. The walls were bowed out. Very scary.Westy said:

Yeh - my gf commutes from NJ to the Bronx.. had to sit in 2 hours of traffic this morning thanks to that explosion right at NYC rush hour!!
thats like 7 miles away....I dont see how that would make them close the bridge

The fire's still going two days later, fuel depot went 'pop', amazingly noone was killed and only 2 were seriously injured as it happened at 6 on sunday morn.
