I bought one from the Black Series (not portable) after reading many good reviews and I couldn't be happier.
I've had good results with Iomega external drives.
Used mybe 4 of them over the years at work, never ever had a problem of any kind.

Huh, I just looked on NewEgg, and found the one I have. The case and cable look the same, the only difference is what's printed on the case.

Yeah unless you are connecting to systems that don't have USB 2.0 and firewire is your only option, USB only will save you a lot of money and its a notebook HDD anyways so the interface isn't the limiting factor.
I just got one of these at work - it rules - connect any IDE/SATA device externally over USB 2.0 without an enclosure:

It comes in 120gb, 160gb, and maybe 80? Whenever I leave the house with it, I put it in a small 1040 pelican case with cut/glued foam I added. It prevents it from getting crushed in my backpack.
