I work for a oil Co.. My co owns a few Exxons and BPs. Funny thing is the news keeps talking about how everything in the middle east is making the oil go up.. We do not get once ounce of oil from the middle east.. Our supplier is Canada... Most Oil Co. Have already found another oil supplier or looking for one...
Still has a very big affect on the cost of oil regardless of the source.

"A study by researchers at the National Marine Fisheries Service in Juneau, Alaska, indicates about six miles of shoreline around Prince William Sound is still affected by the spill, with 100 tons of oil remaining in the area."

And here's the article on MSNBC to enlighten you.

Here's one more to consider.

Get the picture my friend? Guess there's more to the picture than most people think.
cleaned up cuz it really is a very good point.

The govt is looking for an additional fine to clean up the area. That fine would be just 1% of profits. Should be an easy decision.

Yeah it does have a effect on the cost of gas... My beef is my company is getting it from Canada a hell of a lot cheaper than Middle East per barrel... Why not share the savings with there customers? Because the Oil Co. can pretty much charge whatever they want too for there product...Our company price matches with our competitors.. So if they go down a few cents.. We go down a penny.. If they Hike up the price 7 cents.. We hike ours up 8 cents... That doesnt matter if we got a tanker at a store a week before or the same day... Until the goverment steps in and makes changes they pretty much have us by the throat...

Cheap Canadian oil? Must be some form of Lloyd Blend. Right? Then your refining costs are significantly higher than most types of crude. So the savings in the raw materials is quickly eaten up with those increased prices.

You ask why not share the savings? I ask you why should they? You must not have been around that long because you are clearly not remembering the days when barrel costs were sub $15.00 and the industry was slashing and cutting to stay profitable. I don't remember consumers knocking down any doors to pay more to help the oil industry and more importantly its employees.

Are you talking refined gasoline, or oil? I have to assume oil, because (and DRB can expand on this) I'm pretty sure most refining is done here.

The lion's share of refining is done domestically. Some gas is imported but it's a b!tch to move about in large quantities. However, this number is growing as domestic refining capacity becomes an issue. Currently the number hovers around 7 to 10% with the bulk being consumed by the northeast US. The largest suppliers are Canada, the US Virgin Islands, the UK and the Netherlands of all places. Venezeula is a big source but those numbers are a little hazy as to what is US produced and what is imported.
