Exxon Mobil Corp (XOM.N) on Thursday said it is getting out of the retail gas business in the United States, citing the "very challenging" business conditions for its service stations."

Exxon, the world's largest publicly traded oil company, said it will sell the roughly 2,220 service stations it still owns across the United States, including about 820 that it also operates.

Exxon sells off it's stations and somebody else buys them...so what? We trade one company for one or more others? It's not like removing this will have any effect on the supply of gas throughout the country, hell my city has at least 15 stations, removing two or three wouldn't change a thing.

Seriously. Honestly. Come on now. Are you afraid there won't be gas stations in two years because Exxon realized that retail is not their core competency?

Or maybe you're equating this move to Exxon ceasing to sell refined petroleom in the US?

I don't know why I keep asking this, but are you ****ing retarded?

They're actually selling the stations to owners of the stations, in essence, selling the franchise to the operators. Will still be Exxon gas, just less overhead and hassle for them.

you don't really thing Exxon will quit refining gas do you?

I think the bigger issue is moving the refineries off shore, will this reduce tax revenue for the govvy? Or do they operate tax free (ya know, all of the big oil subsidies) ?
