anyone else notice the barrage of news stories relating harrowing accounts of "urban" youths going wild?

with no comparison for other wknds, does the press have an agenda trying to suggest some sort of racial unrest at the nat'l level?

Uh, the Bay Area is the most diverse in America. I hear about blacks/Latinos/Asians/whites going wild-style every weekend.

I used to have a House Nigger, but now apparently I can't call him that. I don't know what else to call him.

Back home we all had our own Blacky.

I don't know what all the fuss is about.

I was watching Louis Theroux's special on Miami's mega jails. I think even Louis was appalled as he was way less gonzo than usual. Apart from the voyeuristic aspect of any prison documentary this was interesting as it mostly consisted of interviews with the actual inmates. Four were of particular interest;

-One guy was accused of triple murder. He talked about his upbringing (raised by his grandmother, no mention of his mother) and how all the people around were in a gang and living "the life". He had contact with his father but only to the extent that he'd come around when his son had done something wrong, kick his arse and leave again.

- The guy who said he was glad he was in jail because he didn't have to deal with all the crap on the outside, mother an alcoholic, sister a prostitute, brother a no-hoper. Sounded like an Eddie Murphy skit.

- The 14 year old boy flunking jail boot camp and being sent to an adult prison, having a meltdown and wishing he was dead, sick of this life. 14 years old.

- The last guy was cruising through boot camp but it was obvious that the moment he was released he'd be back to old ways. Boot camp type programs are for politicians who want to appear to be tough on crime. This guy called it "comedy". You could only agree.

More than depressing, this was just sad. Morally stunted people in a morally crippled system. Common sense would dictate that putting more and more people in prison for longer periods of time is no answer. Conservatives love to point out the lack of personal responsibility apparent in many dysfunctional communities but are less comfortable with the suggestion that we all have a collective responsibility to do something. But why do something difficult when we can do something easy like build more jails.

you think conservatives' first reaction is to earmark funds for more jails? [not 'you', per se...]

conservatives would love nothing more than to [get out the lube, silver] 'focus on the family', but any mention of doing so with a foundation of anything moral (codeword for 'religious') -- a strikingly similar belief system that our founding fathers upheld -- seems to be given short shrift, all in the name of 'sensitivities' toward these psychopath journeymen.

what's the liberal answer? build more community centers? empty the jails? undermine the family by subsidizing single parenthood? let them cut in line b/c of the color of their skin (talk about something easy!), and not socio-economic background, a much stronger indicator of someone in true need of an educational opportunity?

when possible, try associating liberal or conservative values w/ root causes of criminal behavior [misogyny, moral relativism, 'disrespect'], and you can easily reach the point when the only question needs asking is "what flavor would you like your cake?" if you feel [vice think] i'm wrong, recall that for one camp to have a moral failure, one must embrace repentance to be restored to good graces, whereas in the other a moral failure can be a badge of honor, recognized openly by the tribe.

oh, and if any of you take any of this personally, the other side of the coin is that i'm the author for the finer points of conservatism, where the truth is i merely find it more appealing than the alternative. so in that respect i'm very much pro-choice.

Agreed, with all of it.
It was a great documentary, but really sad at the same time. He had done one previously with San Quentin, but it wasn't anywhere as bad as this one in terms of showing the hopelessness of the current system.

When I see jungle bunnies romping and acting their race, I know that blacks can't be trusted.
