Hey all,

A few tech ?s for any and all to possibly help.

History-- built cpu and it go blown up by electrical storm-- (I know, surge protector--- completely different story.... don't ask)

I am almost certain the Hard Drives are salvageable.

New Dell on it's way with vista, old HDs were XP, file system compatible? (FAT vs. NTFS vs. something new????)

Can I use the old HDs in the new cpu with them formatted for XP, and the new cpu is vista?

OTHER option-- scrap vista altogether as I still have the full SP2 XP disk from the cpu that got blasted.....???

Sorry if this is elementary, google tells me that vista is NTFS, but is there more to it?
Thanks

Vista is NTFS, but it can read FAT32 without a problem. Just plug your old drives in and pull the data off them.

You can certainly install XP if you want to, but Vista works just fine so I wouldn't really worry about it unless you start using it and decide you don't like it. Give it a chance.
