i'm going out on a limb here and making a challenge for you guys.
i need a freeride/dh style bike complete that sells for about $1,500 give or take a couple hundred.
the hard part... it can't be any of these brands.
specilized, kona, norco, trek, giant, Dimond back, cannondale, rocky, haro, or a used. :EDIT: no mailorder crap.
winner gets a buck.
ok...

....go!
i'm not goig to buy this bike i just need to find other brands that i have missed for research. I work for my LBS so duh, i'd buy from them if i was going to buy at all.

i'm thinking more of something a shop would carry...i won't buy anything mail order!
supergo has a store in the u district, so it's not really mail order if you're willing to drive down into town

You do realize that you're limiting yourself to what, K2, Gary Fischer (which is really trek but you didn't state it,) santacruz and that's about it for the normal lines that any shop will carry and you're unwilling to purchase an iron horse because they are also sold at supergo. So you're saying you want a high end, botique brand if you will, bike, complete, for the price of a budget FS bike. You can keep your dollar because nobody is going to be able to find that bike.

i'm not really looking for a bike, i was just trying to find a bike in that area for research, the idea was to limit so you guys would come up with brands that i had missed.

good god this thread is pathetic.

sorry,i don't have any suggestions. my job around here is to just chime in every once in a while when i get bored and just talk trash.it's fun.

to the first 5 or so people who posted replies, did you even read the poor b@stards post? he said NO MAILORDER,and NO GIANTS.and to whoever said this:

"i'm assuming you want new, as opposed to used?" - dduuhhh did he not clearly state that he did NOT want a used bike?

alright, now is the time when everyone gangs up and starts talking trash back on me!

good thing i don't care! trash talk away! :)

one more time reject, "Hippieville" is 2 hours from seattle which has a Supergo store. Which means Hippiekai could drive his ars down there and buy a IH.

Not that I really want to help you as I find this thread to be totally assanine however, as of last year they were selling a triad or something spelled like that which resembled a giant AC with a 1.5 HT. Maybe they discontinued it though, K2 doesn't really seem to be hitting the market's sweet spot.

Stop being so difficult! Just get something from your LBS!
He's not actually looking to buy this bike, he's doing it for research of some sort. Kai, maybe you should include that in the original post!

Tirade. Basically a really heavy short travel bike

Give me one brand that you can't buy mail order. Even boutique US made brands like Turner and Intense can be bought mail order. Hell, you can buy both of those brands at supergo.

did you get Jamis already? The Dakar is sort of freeridey. Also Craftworks, DaBomb/Bombshell? Maybe some obscure Euro stuff? Muddy Fox, B1, Orbea, Hot Chili, Merida, Oryx, check Pinkbike links for other weird stuff that don't show up much 'round these parts.

*Edit- no Kona or Norco

transition dirtbag under a grand for the frame, some cheap componets and fork you might be able to keep it under $1500

Dang, both my suggestions were just taken... Transition and Raleigh. What about Brodie though? Oh, and don't hate on mail order and Supergo. I know you're biased because you work at a bike shop, but for those of us with limited funds who don't get EP on everything, mailorder and Supergo are the only way to go. Otherwise our bikes would suck. At least a real shop is coming to town, and I still know where to get parts for a decent price not too far outside town. Last thing I bought at your shop was a BB facing and chasing and a headtube facing, and that was almost $60. Yeah, I'm gonna pass on that...
