I just graduated from college in December, and right now I'm stuck at a crappy dead-end bike shop job in the same town where I went to college. I've been hunting for jobs pretty aggressively and throwing my resume all over the place, but god damn it's a lot of work. Why can't somebody just say "you're hired" so I can relax? Anybody here wanna hire me? :busted:

It ain't easy pimpin' your resumé all over the place. I've been searching for something else for a while, and depending upon what sort of job you are after, the market may not be to positive at the moment.

What field? What job are you looking for. Where have you been looking?

Not that I have any good advice to offer, I am just curious.

It is a lot of work, no doubt, but there are a LOT of people out there looking for work so you'd better hustle if you need a job. An alternative idea is to start targeting the companies where you would really like to work, even if they aren't advertising as hiring, instead of looking for anything, anywhere.

What do you want to do?

Don't plaster your resume like you are firing off a fist full of knuckle children. Target companies you want to work for, modify your resume to fit the job description (but don't flat out lie, that's bad) and personalize the cover letter as well.

I tend to work with head hunters because they do the crap work.

<edit> It also helps if you find out who to send the resume to rather than jobs@placetowork.gov

Looking for something related to either cycling or skiing, possibly in outside sales or marketing. I have a ton of experience with retail sales and customer service (mostly in bike shops), which certainly helps. I've been in touch with several different bike companies as well as some ski resorts, all in California.

That's exactly what I've been doing, which is why it feels like so much work. I came up with a list of 114 companies to which I want to apply. So far I've applied to maybe 12. :twitch:

We're hiring for customer service. It's in Carson City, but close to Tahoe anyway.
